So do you think Jake Mantel will start the season on varsity?

Powell is a scorer, much created by the style Park plays- up and down trying to outscore their opponent with little emphasis on defense.  I would have liked to see him play a season in the OK Red which plays out a lot like in MIAA, tough man-to man, grind it out, and not very pretty.  Byran is quick, but will have to spend some serious time in the weightroom in order to contribute next year (at least as much as some of you already expect him to) Two words - Micah Chappell.  Powell is better but Micah was a scorer as well....

It is great to see Calvin strike first on the recruiting radar, the new facilities have already made a difference and more kids are sure to follow suit.  i have heard that one of the Zeeland East kids is coming as well ( not Korey), not the quarterback.

I too have always thought harper was overrated.  But in an uptempo style (AAU) his ATHLETIC ABILITY stands out.  You can't coach it.

Bryan Powell = Derek Griffin but shorter and a worse passer...seen 'em both ALOT in HS

Another Derek Griffin?  Sounds good to me, then...

Arena:  Having some family members attending Calvin it is important to talk with the financial aid people prior to making any college decision.  Part of the current fund raising program goes to scholarships, and I read somewhere just the other day about 200+ new scholarships at the college in the recent past.

Calvin just recieved $500,000 (grant) for scholarships for math majors.

Very rarely does a college student pay the entire cost of tuition.

- 8% of Calvin students are full pay (no financial aid).
- Calvin alumni donations cover about 25% of the average student's tuition.

just spoke to a wm hs coach with some younger talent and he mentioned that Calvin is in position for "a huge recruitng class from the wm area alone this year and next".  take it for what its worth....Having tommy at calvin would be tough on the parents with athletes at hope, calvin and cornerstone.
who is tommy?

Pretty sure it is Snikker's younger brother.

Were Tommy to come to Calvin, it would offer the Snikkers an unusually broad perspective by which to take measure of the three schools and their respective basketball programs.   Which could be very interesting.

Its not much but its nice to see that D3 basketball got a little love in one of the large Chicago papers.

There's been a lot of chatter about VanDussen and Snikkers, and their respective high school teams played a classic in the district final with Zeeland East prevailing in a game that took two fewer overtimes than did the Syracuse/UConn game of the night before. I didn't attend but my son did and told me the game was spectacular with VanDussen scoring 36 and Snikkers 32. Apparently with Unity down three at the end of regulation, Tom ran down a long pass, took off off for the Unity end and hit a running three to send it into the first overtime. VanDussen, who was held to 6 in the first half, scored 30 points after the break.

I sometimes have mornings which for no reason I wake up at 4:30, unfortunately that frequently happens on a Saturday or Sunday.  I didn't mind this morning, and decided I'd flip through the state high school district results, check out the brackets and see who might be heading my way in a couple weeks.

Low and behold, not even 5 minutes before Oldknights post I read this article about Zeeland East/Unity Christian.  http://highschoolsports.mlive.com/news/article/562216142/zeeland-east-outlasts-unity-christian-in-double-ot/

I will quibble with OK, it was four overtimes fewer. ;)

How many coaches out there have ever wished they had a player they could say these words to at halftime:  "Will you please shoot the ball?  I don't care if you make it, just please shoot the ball."

In case your wondering and I know you aren't.   I have the only Regional in Class A or B that has 4 teams ranked by Stephen Bell right down the road from me at Lansing Everett.

Class A
#25 Holt v #8 Okemos
#2 Kzoo Central v #11 Ann Arbor Huron

Thats the Albion grad Michael Thomas coached Kzoo Central.

.......and the winner gets the Muskegon Reeths-Puffer Regional winner.......just #5 Rockford, #21 Grand Haven, East Kentwood or Benton Harbor.

Get to know the name Cole Darling, Holt Jr., not just because he has the sweetest "Hoosiers/NASCAR" name ever, but the kid can flat out play.  (Don't even think this kid will end up in the MIAA)

Let's cut OK some slack this week, even though he's an attorney.  At the moment, he may not be able to match his typically high standards since he's lolligagging on the beach and/or cruise ship deck (and quaffing copious amounts of tropical "punch") six time zones to the west of the headquarters of Hope Nation.
