Out of 43 votes in the 2010 possible league champion forecast above I see that Hope has a sizeable lead.  Granted Hope has a ton of talent, and potential coming back next year, but personally I do not understand the disparity in the number with Calvin.  My forecast has the 2010 race going much like 09, and Calvin has strenghts where Hope has possible weakness, and Hope has strenght at guards, but it's front line is inexperienced.  Am I missing something?  :)

I cast my vote for Hope as the likely favorite for next year.  It's a close calll, but I think Calvin has more holes to plug than does Hope.   This is keeping KVS busier than an AIG PR consultant -- and so far he seems to be faring pretty well.

Well it certainly couldn't be because it might be someone's honest opinion, regardless of which school they support, since honest opinions aren't welcome here.  :P

Its to awkward for me to accept.

Speaking of awkward chuckles, its off-topic and you probably had to see this obscure movie but I got a laugh out of it.

While I would like to think that I have the ability to sway people's opinion in my more "realistic" moments it dawns on me convincing most Hope posters that Hope has a ton of talent is not exactly a hard sell.  :D
I said early on Hope 08-09 was a talented team, and would do well.  They lived up to everything I expected.  Looking forward I just think Hope (once again) has some very big holes to fill.  Mr. Reimink is going to be hard to replace.  Perhaps Mr. Venema will become the big man inside that Hope  needs, but after him I think everyone has to wonder a bit about depth insdie.

Greatlakeshoops.com has 6-5 Brian Sheridan from New Lothrup heading to Adrian College.  Stephen Bell had him #30 on his pre-season power forwards list.  Since no All-State lists have been released accolades will have to wait.

If you're like me and wonder where the heck in Michigan New Lothrup is......its about 15 miles NW of Flint, near Flushing.

Greatlakeshoops.com has now removed Adrian from next to Brian Sheridan's name.  New Lothrup is in the Class D quarterfinals next Tuesday and play Lawrence at Battle Creek Harper Creek.  Lawrence's 6-10 Shane Whittington was Stephen Bell's Class D player of the year.

I agree with you Realist that Hope is going to have a ton of talent coming back with Bunn, Crombeen, Bowser to name a few. I think that Venema has got quite a ways to go before he's a legit collegiate player, not saying he doesn't have a future, but he's definitely still a little green behind the ears. But like you said, we'll see how well Hope reacts to not having Reimink in the lineup. I think Calvin has more depth returning, but that's just my personal opinion, as their biggest contributor is coming back and they aren't losing much from this year as Veldhouse performed severely sub-par and Smith never played consistent enough to be considered a legitimate threat. But we'll see, I'm excited to see how Calvin's recruits perform and the way these two teams will compete as the Calvin-Hope tradition continues

Just took a look at the statistics and how much scoring and rebounding Hope and Calvin are losing to graduation. They're actually pretty close when you look at scoring.  Rebounding is a different matter.

Hope - losing 45.8% of scoring and 38.1% of rebounding
Calvin - losing 45.6% of scoring and 49.6% of rebounding

FDF:  Your point is well made.  At this point in time it is hard to see Calvin sustaining the rebounding margin they enjoyed this past season.  At the same time us Calvin fans would like to see more players contributing offensively.   Looking at Hope's potential roster for next year I see a team that is going to have plenty of ball handlers, but just not sure I see them winning many battles inside.  I hasten to add I have been wrong before, and much can change between now and when the first whistle blows in Nov.  In agreement with several Hope posters Jesse did so many extra little things to make Hope better the last few years the void is larger than most people realize.

An even more important statistic......

Hope---> losing 38.2 % minutes played

Calvin--> losing 53% minutes played (would be much higher if Veldhouse had not gotten injured this season)
