......and Adrian clinched the MIAA title and NCAA bid in baseball this afternoon with a split over Calvin.

I'll add to the postseason talk ...

Olivet women's golf team joins Saint Mary's in the field for the national championships ... The Comets won the league championship during the fall, but the Belles won the league playoff this spring to get the AQ ...

The Comet men's golf team earned the AQ with its championship during the fall.

The championships are next week, May 13-16, in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

Presumably this is Josh Holwerda of Rehoboth Christian, son of Jim Holwerda who was a starter for Hope in the 70's.

Rehoboth Christian had two hoopsters this year about whom the school administrator was enthusiastic -- Holwerda, who's following in his father's footsteps and heading to Holland, and Russell Kamps, who's coming to Calvin.

In todays edition of Googles Stalking...........both Josh Holwerda and Russell Kamps to Hope and Calvin can be confirmed from their web pages.  (creepy huh)  Josh calls himself 6-7 so we'll go with 6-7.

Its not easy to even get to New Mexico, let alone find out information about two small school players.  Rehoboth Christian is located just outside Gallup, New Mexico which is located just outside of nowhere.  I cannot recall if it lies within or just outside the borders of the Navajo Nation..........but its on a great drive from Albuquerque to Flagstaff.

Rehoboth is in the 2A level of New Mexico high school basketball, which if I guess, is equivalent of Class D in Michigan.  They played what looks to be mostly Navajo tribal schools, though this amateur New Mexico basketball enthusiat really has no idea.

Only 32 teams make each divison of the New Mexico state tournament (5 divisions), and Rehoboth was one of them, makeing the quarterfinal.  (side note:  New Mexico seeds their state tournament after the regular season and have the novel format in district play of #4 vs #3, winner plays #2......winner of that game plays #1.  So if you're the #1 seed you only have to win one game to win District.)

I'm pretty certain that these are the first two players named to the prestigious Navajo Times all-area teams to potentially play in the MIAA.   Josh was a first teamer, Russell a second teamer.  The Navajo Times is the known authority on D3 recruiting in the Land of Enchantment.

..........and now the standard youtube 'nevermiss' highlite reel........and welcome to the miaa to both.

I believe those are all Josh Holwerda.

Back in the late 70's a 6'4" kid came out of Rehoboth (his Dad was a Home Missionary in nearby Gallup for the CRC) by the name of Rich Posthuma. He played JV ball for the Knights but I don't think he ever played varsity. No word on whether the Navajo Times made him an All-Area selection. When in grad school I actually played some pickup ball with Rich and he was a pretty decent player.

+k to sac on the video find.

Can't take credit for the video, it was on Josh's web page.

Bob MacKenzie

Josh and Russell stayed in our home last spring while on Rehoboth Christian School choir tour.  After the choir gave a daytime performance at the local Christian elementary school, Josh impressed the kids with a few dunks in the gymnasium.

Both seem to be nice young men who will fit in nicely at their chosen schools.  If I'm not mistaken, Josh's mother graduated from Calvin.  Apparently his father's influence won out over the combined influence of mom and my children, who tried valiantly to talk him out of Holland.

I now have heard that Ellsworth's Tyler Ingalls will be going to Hope. Maybe Steve Bell can give his opinion of Tyler's abilities. I do remember his name on the All Area Team for North Western Michigan, and on Bell's 4th or 5th team Class D.
