MWD:  Ease up a little, and read some of the other posts.  If you truely are the basketball genius you would have us believe you are how do you explain the MIAA/CCIW challenge last fall.  Of course you may say it didn't mean much, but over the years Carthage, and Wheaton have had teams that would have been more than competitive in the MIAA.  In fact if you care to check with the folks over in the CCIW room they will quickly correct your misconception that any of their teams can be classified as cupcakes.  GVW does a very good job getting good players and people to come play for him.  Can he make them all superstars, and satisfy thier dreams, no.  Frankly you come across as the kid that got cut the second day of jv practice.

Is it me or is Mustywetdog like a bear... he hibernates until Hope loses a tough one against Calvin and then *BAM* comes out growling...

Back in 2000 there was a poster by the handle of memphis who, if memory serves me correctly, was a Wooster fan and a regular on the NCAC board. He also visited the MIAA chat room. He was very good and fair minded, and he offered valuable insights and even, on occasion, some sage advice to fellow posters. One of those pieces of advice was to "swim on by" when another poster gets a little over the top with his comments. That might be happening with mustywetdog's posts. Some of you you who are responding to mwd might want to consider memphis' advice. I miss you memphis, you were a good poster. We need more people like you.

Gee, that 'memphis' fellow sounds like a hell of a guy... ;) :-[ :)

Congratulations go out to Kalamazoo College's Brad Brinkiman, named today to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District team, selected by CoSIDA, for District IV, College Division.  Brinkiman carries a perfect 4.00 average in Economics, and by being named to the District first team automatically is nominated for the Academic All-America team.  Congratulations to this outstanding scholar-athlete!

As an outsider, I certainly would think the discussion in the final huddle for Hope would be "alright, you can hand them a two-point shot on a platter, but nothing outside the arc at all."

anders - I seriously doubt that you would have that kind of defensive approach to the last shot - you play to win and not let them score - period.

Alright, well exagerating with "on a platter" of course, but you really have to err on the side of over-playing the 3 there. Both coaches know that Hope has more talent on paper, so if Calvin does force overtime, the extra time to get control of the game back certainly favors Hope with another 5 minutes. Knowing that makes a 3 the best chance for Calvin as they can put everything on one well designed play. I wasn't suggesting you roll the red carpet down the lane, but if you're going to make a defensive mistake there, do it inside the arc. Immink didn't appear to defend that play as if the 3 was his main concern.

A fine bunch those C.O.W. folks  ;)

Let's keep in mind that Hope is still 20-2...

20 wins and 2 losses.

That still has to count for something, right?

All you dutch folk out there stop looking at your wooden shoes and look towards this Saturday. One measure of how good the dutchmen really are will be how they rebound from this loss. With personal regrets to Adrian, I would like to see Hope march over there and hand them a 20+ point loss  ;D

I think you should watch more basketball.

So, with all this talk of betting lines for the Hope/Calvin game, what sort of point spread would there be for this Saturday's game at Adrian?  20ish?  I'm personally HOPING that the Dutchmen are a bit hungover from yesterday's game when they roll into the newly refurbished Merillat Center.

Does GVW begin thinking about using Van Solkema now?  I don't believe he can play Immink 30+ minutes per game in the
tournament for back to back games.  He needs to show some confidence in Partridge and let him play more or start to use
DVS if he wants to make a strong run at the elusive banner.

It was surprising to see how little Vanderheide contributed last night.  He was 3-9 with 1 rebound and 6 turnovers in 26 minutes of playing time.

I also thought that his play was, shall we say, a bit uneven. Even the Holland Sentinel had an article that mentioned this and hightlighted the fact that the critical turnover that Meckes saved along the baseline with 20 seconds left was VanderHeide's fault.
