Sac, Chappel was a lot better his Junior year when Neitzel was getting him wide open 3's, I didn't see Neitzel on the Calvin roster this year.  I think that makes him a lesser Andy Drayer.

I was surprised to see Zoerhof from Holland Christian on the varsity, maybe concentrating on just one sport is finally paying off.

All that being said, KVS is one of the best coaches in the league, if not the best coach. Calvin will matter.

Hope's roster should be set this weekend. I wouldn't expect a lot of surprises there. The important question is how GVW hands out the 200 minutes a game he has at his disposal.

I'm curious as to how Calvin and Olivet decide so quickly---before any tryouts in Olivet's case? and after just a couple days in Calvin's case---who makes their varsity and jv.  Do the coaches have their minds made up, based partly on recruiting promises, before tryouts?

I definitely never meant to imply that I would "write off" the Knights.  I seem to remember many folks (me included) doing that about this time last year - and we all saw how good a prediction that was  :D  I was commenting more on the unexpected losses - and I hadn't even noticed that Winkle was gone from the bench - WOW!

pointlem - I agree about being puzzled about rosters being out so quickly.  I would guess it is either got to be coaches already decided based on recruiting promises or a lack of guys trying out.  I know that there are certainly some players who you know are going to be on the team, but to fill the unknown slots so quickly is suprising.

Another great picture of the new scoreboard - we gonna have replays on that thing?   :o

I did verify that the 6'7" Voisin on Olivet's JV team is Eric's brother (6'9" SR - Hope).  Too bad we won't get to see them playing against each other.  Does anybody out there know if there have ever been brothers in the MIAA at different schools who played against each other?

Looks like Brian and Shane had some fun with that scoreboard.

Place looks great doesn't it.

One problem...who's idea was it to have opening night on the same day Michigan plays Ohio State?  That will take some serious driving to make it back in time for tip off.  I'll be in Ann Arbor even if M's 4-6, can't miss that game.

Gonna have to have a word with the AD about that.

That's ridiculous. Brian would destroy Shane.

:D :D :D :D

Well, with one of those frequent 4pt plays, he'd be right back in it.   ;D

It's so nice when the media co-operates and answers my questions - (yes , the scoreboard is video-capable).

Sac, keep up the faith about Big Blue.  All of my OSU buddies keep thanking me for the last 2 Michigan wins and I have to keep reminding them, not only does Michigan have the Buckeyes in the Big House, but both Michigan and Ohio State still have to play Northwestern?!  I'm just glad that the Wolverines were able to keep that MO going from that awesome game at the Big House last weekend that I was fortunate enough to partake in!!!

You will have your hands full in trying to attend The Game in AA and the innagural game at DeVos, especially if they push The Game back to a 3:30 start.  I don't even think your NASCAR practice would get you back to Holland in time. ;)  You're making the right choice BTW! :)

Here is a direct link to the roster:

http://www.hope.edu/pr/athletics/mbb/mbbrost.html

The only guy I would see as MIA is Peter Overbeek.  8 returning players, 4 transfers - Patridge, Wolfe, Vanderheide, and Hare - along with 2 palyers from last year's JV - Holt and Klein - fill out the roster (14 this year, 16 last year).

Also see 5 JVers who are back for a second year of JV ball.

I like the height of the Dutchmen--all above 6'2" besides Immink. You don't see that often in D3. All told, it looks positive.

Gone from last year (non-seniors): Dan Brown, Jake Hogeboom, Travis Dyke, Pete Overbeek.

But, 2 big questions loom: 1) Is Dan Holt the answer to backing up Voison when he's out?  2) Who backs up Immink? Wolfe? Jager?  I almost want to see one of the soph. JVers play up---there's 6 PGs with Durco, Teets, Creighton, Boehm, Edison and Wimbly. (Speaking of which, I thought Dan Greenan from FHN was enrolled at Hope?)

hope4015

Richardson, VanderHeide and Hare will be backing up Voison. They will rotate and use matchups to their advantage. Remember, this is D3 and the MIAA, a solid 6'6" guy is better than a weak 6'10" player.
