Pat, I have to marvel at the number of your posts(over 25000). I am curious if you have a "9 to 5" job or do you solely monitor the d3 site joining in discussions and looking for problematic posts? Just doing some quick figuring at an average of 20 seconds a post, it would take about 35 weeks of 40 hour weeks to write and post that many! WOW, that is impressive!  Also, is anyone even close to your number of postings or your high karma rating?

I would not worry about such #'s, but when you hang banners in your gym about attendance I would want to make sure #'s aren't embellished.  Sorry if this hits people the wrong way with my 1st post, but I guess I'm wondering if someone knows something I dont.

I don't belive there is an attendance banner in DeVos Fieldhouse...........and everyone inside the doors is counted. 3,665 seemed a bit much to everyone who would have a better idea than the rest of us.

There were two rows of seats in the standing room area behind 8 or 9 of the sections.  10-15 seats in each row.........thats between 160-270 seats.........plus staff and journalists etc, etc.....and your in the ballpark.......but 3665 seemed a bit high to me to.

Does anyone know if there is a place where one can rewatch The Game (online or elsewhere)? It would be something I would be very interested in doing.

Thanks

You should have had it DVR'd.

So you're claiming the charging call on Nelis at the end of the half was a result of Veltema moving his feet well on defense? Um, ok.

There seemed to be some complaining at this play in particular, so I watched it 15-20 times last night on my DVR, both at regular speed and slow motion, and nothing made me believe that it was a bad call. It was definitely a very close play, but my conclusion was that Veltema's feet were set while Nelis' were still on the floor. Of course, my glasses may not be the same tint as everyone elses.

This is the banner I am referring to...I believe it still hangs in the rafters: I don't know how to import the picture so here is the link (about the 3rd picture down): Middle banner: "Inaugural Season  32-0 NCAA DIII Attendance Leaders 2005-2006"

bojack, welcome to the board. It's nice to see that MIAA basketball has attracted an "outsider" as a fan. I hope you continue to post; it would be very interesting to hear MIAA opinions from someone not related to the schools.

You may find that Hope fans don't enjoy discussing the topic of banners.  ;D

Hope's led D3 in men's basketball attendance for something like 18 of the last 20 years...........they put up one banner after the opening season of DeVos to recognize going undefeated at home and leading the nation in attendance...........its not like the place is ringed with attendance banners.

I'm quite confident Hope leads D3 in attendance and usually by a pretty significant margin.

realist

32-0 is a very nice record, and leading the nation in both men's and women's b-ball attendance is a feather in Hope's cap.
Does anyone know/care what the fire marshall in Holland considers capacity? :)

Well deserved for Bowser, Saturday was the bet game I have seen him play.

I have no doubt that Hope leads the nation in attendance...I'm always impressed with the loyalty and turnout of both students and community alike.  Whatever the numbers are for Hope, I would be proud the atmosphere and turnout they have on a consistent basis.

I wasn't trying to imply the Devos is littered with attendance banners but I did notice the one.  It doesn't need to hang attendance banners as there are many other more impressive accomplishments...When I attended games and went back to check the stats online, I was always miffed with the attendance as it seemed to be reported more than what I actually saw and compared to the capacity...but again, you are right...who cares.  It is not a big deal.  I was just wondering if there was something I was missing.  The product on the court and support off the court is impressive.

BTW...I have been over to the VanNoord arena as well...not too shabby knight fans  :D

Bojack, welcome, and thanks for your well-reasoned question (which others have had).  The 3079 seats in DeVos don't include the row of chairs around the upper perimeter, which explains how the college gets from the 3079 seats on the architect's chart to its announced seating capacity of 3200 (as when stating "DeVos Fieldhouse has a seating capacity 3,200":  http://www.hope.edu/athletics/wbbchampionship/tournament_2008news.html).

Actually, I suspect that the actual capacity is a tad over 3200, given that most of the upper row seats have a chair behind them.  This number also doesn't include the team members, the press box, and the stadium staff . . . which takes us into matters of definition of attendees.  (Does the NCAA have a definition, and are other MIAA and DIII schools using the same definition?)

The ticket manager surely knows exactly how many tickets and passes she provides for a Hope-Calvin game.
