Knight In The Stan

I also thought the announcers comment "Bryan Foltice couldn't make it today..." during the halftime presentation was comical.  :D

The Knights kind of overwhelmed the Hornets at Van Noord cruising in the second half to an 86-59 win. K shot a miserable 24.7% for the game. Ryan Clark was really the only offensive threat for Kalamazoo but he only went 6-24 from the floor. Prepolic appears to be a nice player with a pretty good looking shot but he may still be hampered by back problems. If Prepolic isn't healthy it's pretty tough for the Hornets to compete inside because Calvin simply has too much inside game for Kazoo.

Powell finished with 18 and led the Knights in scoring for the first time in his career. I suspect it's not the last time we'll see that happen. Bryan shocked everyone in the arena with his dunk. I had no idea he had that kind of hops. It caught a bit of rim on the way down but still qualified for the flush. Powell was 7-8 from the floor and he clearly is starting to fit his exciting, flash-and-dash style into the Calvin offense. Bryan still makes mistakes but does a lot of the little things automatically now rather than mechanically as he was doing earlier in the season. He's a good rebounding point guard, boxes out well, and is becoming a factor on defense. Powell had 5 steals in just 20 minutes of action.

Yup - anything creative like those would be a surprise from the Calvin students.    :P

What Calvin students??  I'm embarrassed as an alum of that school for the student support that the team gets. I counted 24 students in the student section today at tip off.  There needs to be a change in culture, I think, for the incoming freshman, but I'm not sure how you can do that.  That amount of support for a team that is tied atop the standings is a disgrace.

You're right. Student attendance was pathetic and I just don't get it. Most of the students who do show up for games this year come at least 5 minutes after the opening tip.

The moment was simultaneously comical and tense. You could feel it in the air, almost as if someone had passed gas in a crowded room.

A real barn burner in Holland.  Hope up by 2 with about 5 minutes left.

The normally solid Dutchmen have really struggled from the line tonight........Albion has lost a number of games this year because of freethrows.

Might the tables turn?

Hope 98 Albion 90

Hope's starting 5 accounted for all but 9 of their points.  Big game for Andy Venema and Peter Bunn had only 5 FG attempts.

After the worst officiated game I have witnessed this year, Olivet drops another close one to Adrian.  Seems to me that the Comets tend to play to the level of their opponents.

Given the current MIAA standings, you must be saying that Olivet played better than usual today.

I had to take time off my hiatus to give you +k for that one

........also it makes a better argument complaining about officiating if the other team didn't shoot fewer FT's and have more fouls.......and the other teams best player and best big man didn't foul out of the game either.

Thanks, Sac.  I returned from a bit of a hiatus myself for that comment.

Sadly, I didn't see the game today, but I know Olivet is a solid team, and it certainly means a lot for the Bulldogs to have a regular season sweep over a good team like that.

A Hope/Albion game that went into the 90s?  Clearly, something is not right with the world.

Albion leads Hope 50-45 at the break. Wow, it's not often you see Hope's defense give up 50 in a half. The Flying Dutchmen are shooting 17-28 but Albion appears to be controlling the boards and shooting well from the arc (5-11). Venema with 16.

Too bad the game's not at a technologically advanced school.  ;)  It'd be nice to watch a video feed.

I missed Bryan Powell's "Dunk" today due to some serious lagging. I heard the crowd roar and that announcer say 'flush.' However the next trip down at a stoppage I heard a fan yell out, "Its okay Bryan, we'll count it as a dunk." LOL  :P
Clearly it was the best flush in the history of D3 Hoops.    :-*

It was better than Joe Dumars' one career dunk. I thought it was pretty legit. The crowd reaction was due to the shock factor of a dunking DIII point guard.

To be fair, there were a few other team members that did not make it, and the announcer treated all of them in the same manner.  What was weird was that the crowd was fairly quiet for him, but was somewhat louder for some of the other absent players, even if they were not as significant* in the championship season.  Perhaps he had a prior (paid) commitment at Cornerstone  :o

*I know, I know, ALL the players were significant

Looks like they were resting between the Sem Pond Jump (600+ students) and AirBand 2010 (1,300+ students). This was along with nearly 700 students at Tuesday's Calvin Improv troupe's show.
