It would be nice to see Turner get his 500th win this year...which barring complete meltdown, it looks like it should happen.

Albionbrit, don't worry about it.  There have been some off-court, family issues with the team this year.  I wasn't aware of it either during the first part of the year, so I was too harsh as well.

As for the games tonight, should be snoozers except for the one.  For as much as I'm on the Calvin bandwagon and as much as I say Albion is slipping, I'll take Albion by 7 in a stunner in GR.

i love hope  sports all of them are really great to watch

Whatever it is, I think it's the same hurdle for helmet stickers for Ohio State's football program.  I know the o-line is important, but how do some of those guys manage to have a helmet full of stickers for 12 games?

And talk about karma, all this picking Albion to win tonight is making me nervous.

OK, how about Calvin 72, Albion 65. Does that help calm the nerves a bit?

John Rusnak

I thought I'd be the only one picking them, lol...

Those helmet stickers aren't for  good play.....they're to let the alumns know how much they expect in their post game handshake.  ;D  ;) Multipy each buckeye by 20.  cha-ching 8)

Some random thoughts.........

Good karma day for Albionbritfan, loved the "hug a referee day".  It is a thankless job.

---we'd all like to think the NCAA will separate teams based on talent and ability but in D3 its all about geography.  This is the reason one of the west michigan shools will draw an Illinois or Wisconsin school.  My hunch is Hope.

----With the new 1st and 2nd round hosting idea (terrible) the Great Lakes will be like a mini-sectional........at the very least for one of the 3 or 4 team brackets.  There will be some doozy matchups involving the 2, 3, 4 ,5 "seeds" all at one site.  Again probably in Ohio.

-----I also think you'll see an NCAA round 1 matchup of Hope/Calvin vs Albion........somewhere probably in Ohio.

----If you look at the historical  first and second round matchups from this region you'll notice there is almost always a nail biter every year, sometimes two.  Last year it was Calvin/Wheaton and Wooster/Albion.  Sometimes it takes a little luck just to advance to the sectionals.  Hope's 96 run doesn't happen without a last second 1st round win vs Kzoo.  Calvin's 2000 banner doesn't exist without an OT win vs Franklin or last years trip to Salem ends in  Wheaton, Illinois without that nail biter.

----Tonights Calvin/Albion game should be a good one, I'll be there, its a much more appealing game than Hope/Alma.   I'm sure I won't be the only Hope fan with a interest in that one.  ;)  It'll be hard to be neutral.  ;D

----NWHopefan, you would have loved last weeks Hope/Calvin game.  Very well played, great effort........tense and hot.  One of the more enjoyable games I've seen, despite the outcome.  I loved it.

For all of those interested in Official Conspiracy Theories, there is a good article out about longtime Big 10 official Dick Honig.

Yeah, conspiracy theory is right. I assume you're referring to the officiating article written from a Penn St. perspective. Any griping which PSU fans do about the refs should be taken with about a case of salt; I think they're convinced the Big 10 has been against them since they joined and have intentionally had the refs favor their opponent in every game since then.

Next time a PSU fans starts going at their conspiracy theory.......just remind them that they managed to get a bye week prior to playing Michigan AND Ohio State in their first two years........and managed to get a bye week the next two before facing Michigan.  PSU started out 3-1 vs Michigan.....we all know their record since without a bye week. ;D 8)

#2421
Great Lakes Regional Rankings
1. Wooster 18-1 22-1
2. Baldwin-Wallace 19-2 21-2
3. Wittenberg 16-2 21-2
4. Carnegie Mellon 14-3 18-4
T5. Calvin 9-1 18-5
T5. Hope 14-2 21-2

So you lose a 1 point game to your rival on their floor and drop 3 1/2 spots past a team that lost last week too (Carnegie-Mellon).

What a copout.........sure the MIAA's tiebreaker  had nothing to do with this ranking  ::)

The rest of the rankings can be found here:

John Rusnak

I will scream if they put two MIAA teams against each other in the first round.  At the very least you should see one MIAA team with a bye and the other in the first round so they meet in round 2.  Of course, that won't happen either.

Thanks for all the love with the karma today, lol.

This just shows the absurdity of the regional rankings.  And the fact that so many of Calvin's games don't count is ridiculous too.

What a copout.........

I totally agree.

Can anyone offer any insight into this tie? Is it merely because of the MIAA tourney implications? Are they really saying 1 in-region loss is equal to 5 in-region victories?

Those questions being posed, I would have to say I probably would have done the same thing... I don't envy any of those guys that need to make those decisions  :-\

Dropping below Carnegie Mellon is what gets me..........move Calvin up not Hope down another spot.  >:(

Carnegie Mellon lost to New York U on Friday.  A 21-2 team being ranked behind a 18-5 team just doesn't look right at all.

So, this is it.  I've been reading the posts for a while and finally feel that it's time to graduate, to take that next step.  That is, to move on to actually posting about why DVS shouldn't be playing for GVW or KVS or in the MIAA at all.  In fact, I could even talk about my negative personal experience with DVS, but this story we will save for another post.  I have always dreamed of exclusively using three letter acronyms for names and endlessly lamenting the disintegrating eyesight of certain MIAA refs in a more public forum.

Let's get to the point of my first post.  I would love to go on a long tirade on the intricacies of the DVS situation, but I feel that that may have already been done...a few times...ok...a lot of times.  However, my mission today is solely a fact finding one.  On to my questions.

While looking through the D3 hoops schedules I noticed that my Knights have some of the same regional opponents as Hope, but those games don't show up in the regional rankings.  I was wondering why this was.

Also, the 200 mile rule was mentioned a few times in previous posts and I haven't really been able to discern the exact nature of this rule.  So if anyone would be able to clarify either of these two issues for me I would be very appreciative.

Thanks again.

You're right sac, this makes no sense.

By the way, what will you be wearing at the Fieldhouse tonight?

sac

Games within the "Great Lakes Region" count for everyone.  The NCAA also counts games vs schools within 200 miles using a specific mapping program (Microsoft ?) as "In-Region"

Calvin is considered 201 miles from Wheaton.

You would be right to be upset at this criteria.

If I remember I'll be in my Hope Basketball hat and probalby wearing my Albion sweatshirt.  Unless it gets to hot.

Come say hi, I'll probably be somewhere in the Albion section.

Before or after the opening of the Paul Henry Freeway?   :)  Maybe it's a shorter trip now.  Also, I'm pretty sure the Calvin bus always shows under 200 for the trip.  Maybe the odometer is faulty.  Wonder if the NCAA can come fix it.
