Stevens (Butler's coach) said. "You're going to have to make adjustments, play calls, you're going to have to do things on the fly.

My goodness.  A winning coach that understands the need to be flexible, react to play, and be creative.  His last victim was a noted "system coach".   ;) ;) ;) ;)

Observers said Stevens was actually seen smiling at and with his players.  Notably absent were: foot stomps, pouty looks, demonstrative gestures and acts, and foul language to name a few. :) :) :) :)

Just trying to help some posters catch a clue. :D

How did Bobby Knight and Dean Smith ever win so many games?

I too think it's a fantastic idea to take one data point of success, base that success mainly off of a certain coaching style, and they decry those who don't coach that way (or encourage those who don't to change).  Thorough and prudent to be sure.

Now don't discount Stevens' style.  His defense on Spartan free throws was magnificent, he did a great job of putting MSU's center on the bench for most of the game, and he showed great foresight in tearing Kalin Lucas's achilles tendon! :P

And it's a measure of Stevens' evil genius that he accomplished all those things without a single foot stomp.

Just out of curiosity...how does the Karma thing work?  Because I gained one....literally did not post again and I have somehow lost one.  No big deal at all just wondering how it works.

You just had to ask and open up that can of worms, didn't you? ;)  Basically once someone gets to 200+ posts they have the power to give or take karma and can use it as they deem necessary.  Consequently, there aren't any defined guidelines that will give you positive karma or negative karma.  It can be pretty arbitrary and at times certainly depends on what school/player you are commenting about and whether it is a positive or negative comment.  This very post may get me positive karma or I may see a drop in karma, you just never know what surprise awaits you  ;D.  So don't put too much stock in it and just try to make fair, objective and intelligent posts and you'll be fine no matter what your karma rating winds up rising, or sinking, too.

I have it on good authority that Butler's chances of success ride on the channeling of Larry Bird via Matt Howard's mustache, not Brad Stevens' foot stomping, or lack there of.

I have a quick trigger finger when taking away karma points from Hope fans... much slower if you have some sort of reference to Calvin or Knight in your name. The opposite is true for giving positive karma points.  :)

In an unrelated note (but since this place turn to Tiger talk (baseball, not golf) in the offseason), it was good to see the Tigers shake hands on opening day!

The ladies always go for that sort of mustache.

Don't make fun of me for how I say Coach Kryzewski's last name. I don't speak Italian.

You can tell coach Stevens respects the game. Just watch what happens when he reaches the edge of the coach's box. It's the darndest thing...

I just saw him cross the line with half his foot...terrible sportsmanship.

I dont know. Is that like the blue line in hockey where one can be simultaneously in and out? Perhaps the lack of footstomping makes him less aware of his foot position and thereby predisposed to such a blatant misstep.

+100 karma to goknights for that one.

Thoughts on Coach K's decision to have Zoubak miss the last free throw?  IMHO, I thought it was a poor choice.  Butler is obviously going to put up a worse shot with Zoubak missing than if he makes the free throw and they can take it out of bounds with the clock stopped, but you're also risking losing the game as opposed to going to overtime.  That said, it worked out for him and he obviously has had a more successful coaching career than any of us here on this board.  But just because it works, doesn't always mean its the smartest decision either.
