Brian VanHaaften is/was in Holland, Michigan, this weekend, I would presume for Tulip Time.

I'm sure this is of interest to some people who read this board.

MIAA Track and Field Championships:

In the women's competition, Calvin finished with a first place total of 282.5 points, 76 points ahead of Hope to wrap up their 21st consecutive MIAA title. The Calvin women's championship streak is the longest active streak in MIAA women's athletics history. Calvin has also now won a league-leading 25 MIAA titles in women's track and field.

In the men's competition, Calvin finished with a first place total of 254 points, 39 points ahead of Hope. The finish allowed the Knights to wrap up their 16th consecutive league title including their league-leading 35th overall.

I've been to Storm Lake...While his record is impressive, I can't imagine that the competition there is overwhelming.   ;)

It's all a matter of perspective. The IIAC has failed to acquit itself well in postseason play ... but, then again, so has the MIAA aside from Calvin and Hope. And neither league has done all that well against non-conference opponents in November and December in recent years, either.

You obviously have never seen Storm Lake.  "I'll take a sense of humor for $1000, Alex." ::)

How can my failure to get the joke be proof of my lack of a sense of humor if I've never been to Storm Lake and thus don't have the context with which to understand the joke?

Played some hoops Washington and Lee University's gym today, clearly the facilities arms race that has hit the MIAA has not found it's way to the ODAC. Beautiful campus, however.

Now that the May 1 college decision day has come and gone, has Calvin received confirmation on its recruits? Last I heard, they were looking good for Tyler Kruis, Jalen Bouma, Mitchel Vallile, and Jacob Greene, with Jordan Brink of Illiana Christian a possibility.

It doesn't appear that Jordan Brink is a likely possibility since he was actively pursuing an athletic scholarship (including GVSU) until his pursuit was temporarily derailed with a foot injury.

Today's fun fact--Illiana Christian is the number one feeder school for Calvin outside of Michigan.

Here's the exact quote from Brink's Facebook:

just got off the phone with Streek. I'm officially a Knight!

It always take at least a couple of years to fully evaluate a class but it seems this is the second straight year Calvin has gotten commitments from recruits that offer their team quality, depth, and balance.

It is nice to sit here in 2010 and have a good idea what a starting five could look like in 2012. Calvin seems to be putting together a complete squad, not just a nice collection of talent.
