Now that the May 1 college decision day has come and gone, has Calvin received confirmation on its recruits? Last I heard, they were looking good for Tyler Kruis, Jalen Bouma, Mitchel Vallile, and Jacob Greene, with Jordan Brink of Illiana Christian a possibility.

It doesn't appear that Jordan Brink is a likely possibility since he was actively pursuing an athletic scholarship (including GVSU) until his pursuit was temporarily derailed with a foot injury.

Per Jordan Brink's Facebook page:  He's a Knight.

KVS appears to have brought in a very strong recruiting class. As Oldknight said, there is talent and balance in the class, with a pg in Bouma, a center in Kruis, and a shooting guard in Brink. Vallie and Greene are 6-4 players who add some size and talent inside. We'll see how they turn out, but the class appears to be very good.

Schedule for next season is posted.  Appears to be 11 home games.  All of the conference home games will be on Wednesday nights this year.  Has that ever happened?

Calvin's schedule was odd last year in that just about every Saturday was a home game and every Wednesday was a road game. If I remember correctly there was just one conference home game on Wednesday (the opener with Hope) and one road game on Saturday.

Interesting to note that Calvin will enter the GRSHOF tournament having played three games plus their exhibition with Ferris while Hope will have only played one game. Perhaps Hope has an exhibition that has not been listed.

Hope has all Wed home games next season, and Saturday away games.

Maybe someone in the know, could tell us why the MIAA changed the schedule, rather than just flipping sites and playing the same teams in the same order as this past season.

Perhaps all the moaning on this board about Calvin playing Hope in the league opener last year?  It seems that whatever the schedule is, someone's got a beef with it.

As an aside, I enjoyed Calvin's home league schedule last year--all Saturday games with the exception of the Wed night Hope game.  Made it easy to attend!

Actually, that is pretty close to just flipping the scheduled from this past year.  Hope had one home Wednesday game last year and only one Saturday away game.

I was talking just the order of teams, my recollection is the MIAA has played the same schedule set two years in a row, then changed it.

Last year Hope played

Calvin, Alma, Olivet, Kalamazoo, Albion, Adrian Trine

This year

Calvin, Trine, Alma, Olivet, Adrian, Albion, Kalamazoo

....and this is not a 'beef', its just me being curious about why the schedule change from last season.

This does seem a really odd way to make a schedule. Hope won't have trouble drawing a crowd whether the game is Wednesday or Saturday but other schools may be negatively affected with a similar schedule.

I would think all schools should have a relative distribution between home and away games over Wednesday and Saturdays.  It also means that Hope and Calvin players always playing at home on Wednesday may miss fewer classes for travel than they would otherwise.

I just looked quickly at the old schedules to confirm my recollection that in year's past Hope would play 2 or 3 consecutive home or road games during each turn through the schedule and therefore there was a pretty even distribution between MIAA conference games on Wednesdays and Saturdays.  Now it looks like you just rotate home, away, home, away, etc. Interesting...

Hope entering the HoF Classic with just one game under the belt is not unusual, in fact its the usual for Hope.

A couple notes on two potential Hope opponents.

Lake Forest--  From the early 50's to mid 70's Hope and Lake Forest played nearly every year.  They've met 26 times,  Hope leads 20-6,  this will be the first meeting  since 1978.

Those with good Big 10 player memory will recognize the Lake Forest Head Coach,  Chris Conger as a former Wisconsin Badger.

Malone--  This could be the first ever meeting between Hope and Malone.  Malone is coached by former Calvin assistant and Trinity Christian coach Tim Walker.

This is the third time in four years Hope has brought an NAIA team from Ohio for the Russ DeVette Tournament.

Malone is also noteworthy for being a rest stop just prior to Hope Convert's Damascus Road experience.  The precise details of how and when he encountered the light (lite?) remain murky in my memory, but Malone was a notch in the good professor's resume' along the way.

Regarding the schedules one would suspect that the men's schedules have to compete for floor time with the women's schedules.  It also seems some schools like men's and women's doubleheaders.
