If I could give out karma, I would give props to KnightinIraq.  This whole hiring thing has gotten everyone agitated on the board.  Calvin fans trying to spark a fire and Hope fans retaliating back adding more fuel to it.

While it seems like a long time to hire, I'm glad the committe is putting the time and effort into it.  A bad hire can set the program back a long time whereas a late hire (though it's not even that late IMO) sets the program back maybe a year..  It's not like Hope had an amazing recruiting class coming in anyway and given the depth on the roster returning, I'm sure the 2010-2011 season will be just fine.

I realize there isn't much to talk about with it being the summer but can we switch to World Cup soccer or baseball or something to ease our minds?

With the request for a change of topics from the coaching speculation and Krytonite's request for the list of Hope recruits, I would love to see a school by school list of expected MIAA recruits similar to what we had last year.  I know that quite a number of recruits for different schools have been listed already, but it really helps if someone would place them all on a single list.

It would be highly entertaining (and unlikely) that any of these dear people know much about World Cup soccer (and what you hear on SportsCenter and Mike & Mike in the Morning does not count).

GVW announcing he is retiring after a great career, and his fantastic winning record, and we aren't supposed to talk about it?  B...S... :)
Are ABC, NBC, Fox, CBS et. all going to stop talking about the oil spill?
No. News is news. ;)
Speculation about the next coach for Hope (or any other school) is normal.

Please stop trying to take away my right to speak on this or any other topic. >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

As a Calvin fan, my perspective on the next Hope coach is decidedly differnt than what most Hope posters probably want. :)  Unlike KII, I really hope the individual selected does not do as well as GVW did, and it does become a one horse race for Calvin in the MIAA.  :)
Some Hope posters seem to have difficulty accepting the fact that a power struggle of some degree is going on at Hope College.  Get over it. :)  Politics is played at Hope just like at Calvin, Albion, MSU etc. etc. etc.
The power struggle is between the people that want to see a member of the "Hope family aka an 'insider'" selected, and those who would like to see an "outsider" selected.   You don't need a PHD in Poly Sc. to recognize a political power struggle.  FWIW this one is shaping up to be a classic. ;)
Human nature being what it is, if an "outsider" is selected a sizeable group of Hope fans are going to have hurt feelings, and maybe some bruised egos.  The same is true if the party selected is an "insider", only this time the group that wanted some "fresh air" in the program are going to be the dissappointred ones.
If you want to bury your head in the sand, and pretend Hope is immune to politics, and the rules of human nature fine by me.

HC might beg to differ on that. :)

I'm sure there are plenty of Hope supporters who want the best man for the job whether that be inside or outside.

It's a shame that there are people who are more concerned with getting what they want than what's best for the program. Take a look at the UM football situation. There are some "Lloyd people" that are bound and determined to bring down Rich Rod. They don't want the program to simply succeed, they want the program to succeed with their guy at the helm.

Like Rich Rod, The new Hope coach will either succeed or fail, but hopefully he'll get to do that on his own without "help" from the opposing camp. Unlike UM, I'm confident that the Hope camp has enough sense to give 100% support to who(m?)ever is brought in.

fascinating that the last few people discussing the topic are Calvin people...they seem to be much more worried about the whole thing than the Dutch...

On another note:  I think it would be fun to see how many of us (CALVIN/HOPE esp.) spent our Sundays growing up in the following fashion:

Breakfast:  Eggs and toast (maybe a RUSK if it was a good week)
CHURCH/Sunday School
Big Sunday Dinner usually Roast beef and potatoes
NAP
Snack
CHURCH
Snack again
Bed

Oh there are plenty of Dutch fans worried, perplexed, confused, etc...  Had lunch with a couple yesterday.  Without knowing firsthand what is holding up the decision because I'm "not on the committee", its hard to rationalize what is taking so long when they interviewed the external canidates 3 weeks ago.  One can only speculate.  Taking your time looking at potentials, making inquiries on them, narrowing down the masses is one thing.  Interviewing and taking more than a few days to decide is another situation entirely.

GVW/Neil supporters want to believe that the committee is simply being diligent in their interviewing process.  If that was the direction Hope was headed, the interviewing process would have been a mere formality Neil would have been named and he would be preparing to run the summer  camps like he has for years.  Maybe the committee is holding off on their decision until July so all the camps can be completed.  Think of the possibilites/disasters of that scenario if Neil didn't get it and camps rapidly approaching?

There's a World Cup board under the men's soccer feed.  Usually pretty good stuff, though slow as of late.
There's only two things I hate in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures and the Dutch.

In response to the request to switch topics ;)

Holy ****, Galarraga just threw a one-hitter!! ;D  Tiges 3, Injuns 0.

OMG, the recap has now come up - Armando had a perfect game thru 8.2 innings, and replays show that the 'hit' was actually an out at first.  Unbelievable that an ump would make that call in that situation! >:(
