Jim Tressel
Mark Dantonio
Charles Manson
Lloyd Blankfein
Tony Hayward
Jim Joyce

Mr. Ypsi

Yeah, Jim Joyce has now admitted that he blew it.  A shame that the error is uncorrectable.  Armando Galarraga just threw the 19th perfect game in MLB history (and the third in 23 days! :o).

It would have been the 21st in MLB history.

Yeah, you're right.  My brain hadn't updated since the off-season! :P

Gotta remember to hit the 'refresh' button for my brain occasionally! ;D

Still a total shame that Galarraga doesn't join that very small fraternity. >:(

****NEWS RELEASE *******

Just in from the MIAA Offices:

"We like to announce the new Director of Men's Basketball Officials:  Jim Joyce."

(Just trying to bring a little light humor here.  THIS WAS TOTALLY SARCASM in case you hadn't yet heard about the Detroit Tigers game from this evening.)

Nuts 'n Bolts, Nuts 'n Bolts, Galarraga got screwed.

And... I just saw the post-game interview with Jim Leland - WHAT A CLASS GUY!!!!!!!!!!!!

And... before I forget, in case you missed it, but a fellow poster was seen on TV this past Sunday catching a foul ball hit by Austin Jackson. Proudly wearing a "Gibson" uniform (yes this person has been a Tiger fan longer than being a Hope fan!) 17 rows behind the visitors bench, the ball was grabbed after a tip from another fan and bam - a very special souvenir for this special Tiger and Hope fan. And, a great victory by the Tigers.

Even more amazing than Leland's comments, were those by Galaragga himself! That is one forgiving and humble man. I did hear on a news feed this morning that the Comish has the ability to overturn this.

yes the summer league starts  monday night at the civic  center
i love hope  sports all of them are really great to watch

hoopdreams

How can Hope have a team if they don't have a coach?  I knew things were going to fall apart with everything taking so long.  Relax, I know GVW had nothing to do with the summer leagues.  Just trying to get some people fired up right away.

When Jackson made that catch, how could you NOT think a perfect game was going to occur?  I would love to know the pitch count for all the perfect games in history.  Gala was perfect and so efficient, could have thrown 12 innings last night if needed.

A great article by Lynn Henning in the Detroit News this morning.  I think Jim Joyce, Armando Galaraga, and Jim Leyland all handled this very well after the missed call.

Something that is more rare than a perfect game.  :D

A truly rough day for baseball.  Gallaraga pitches a gem and unfortuntely gets screwed out of a perfect game by a horrendous call.  A baseball analyst on ESPN said that it could be the worst call in the history of regular season baseball.   Can we get some instant replay now, Mr. Selig?  I understand the human element of baseball, but the human element ruining something that has only happened 20 times in the history of baseball is unfortunate.  Treat it like football.  Give coaches two challenges a game and it can't ever be balls and strikes.  It wouldn't slow the game down that much, especially when you consider all of the typical slow trots out to the base umpire, kick a little dirt, ask him how his mother is doing and then returning to the dugout.

In other sad baseball news, Ken Griffey Jr. retired.  A phenomenal athlete that brought baseball relevance to the Northwest U.S.  If only injuries hadn't slowed him down we could probably get rid of that Bonds guy.

I'm right there with you as I wrote over at motorcitybengals.com: http://motorcitybengals.com/2010/06/03/the-time-is-now-for-instant-replay-in-major-league-baseball/

The system can be simple but accomplish a lot at the same time. In the grand scheme of some of the changes baseball has seen, this should be relatively minor.

The major league low for pitch count in a perfect game was by Addie Joss with 74 in 1908, the next lowest is David Cone's 88.  Galarraga threw 88 pitches last night which includes the 5 he threw for the '28th' out.

If they stick with the normal umpire rotations, wouldn't Joyce be behind the place this afternoon?

Yes, Joyce is behind the plate. Leyland is sending Galarraga to the plate to exchange lineup cards and to shake Joyce's hand. I must say that the parties closest involved are handling this with complete class.

Was just going to post that, agreed pure class by Leyland and the Tigers organization.    MLB also gave Joyce the opportunity to have today off, and he declined.
