GK I'm happy to see that you saw my major point in that post.

Nobody attends the Monday league anymore?  You could always count on 5-10 alums attending these games.  I had a buddy stop in ( my stupid golf league keeps getting in the way) and he said the Hope game was a shootout from deep.  He doesn't know any players, nor who they played but said it was entertaining at times.  My estimation has them playing the Gugino allstars last night.  Does the clan still sit in the VIP seats and bitch the entire time....about everything?

I don't have a lot of detail on this, but longtime MIAA ref Ernie Cryer apparently has passed away.  Ernie was a fan favorite, engaging with the Dew Crew and the Calvin Knightclub and bantering with coaches, players and fans alike.
Ernie was feted at a Calvin-Hope game upon his retirement from active officiating a few years ago.  He could not have been much more than 60 years old, if that, having been a standout high school player at Ottawa Hills in Grand Rapids in the late 1960s.  Ernie led Ottawa Hills to the state championship in 1968, the first for a Class A school from Grand Rapids, with 25 points.
A big loss for his family, friends and the church community of which Ernie was an enthusiatic part.

Very sad news.

Not only was Ernie good at the job (some may disagree), you could tell that he genuinely enjoyed the responsibility, the work, the atmosphere, etc...  I often get the impression the many, not all, officials are doing it simply for the check.

Mr. Ypsi

The Tigers continue to mystify.

Scherzer, perhaps the weakest of the Tigers starters, has a gem going - a 4-hit shutout after 7 (I'm surprised to see him going in the 8th, since he has already thrown 123 pitches, but a shut out is a terrible thing to waste!).  The Tigers first two runs came from a 2-run tater by Gerald Laird (batting .185)!  In the bottom of the 7th the world turned back right-side up as Ordonez and Cabrera knocked in the 3rd and 4th runs.  Hopefully they can't blow this one; they're already on their longest losing streak in over two years.

As I expected, Scherzer's continuation was an error by the play-by-play updates - Coke started the 8th, and promptly sent them down 1,2,3.

FOX17 Sports news at 10 p.m. just did a nice tribute to Ernie. They stated that he was just 61. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. The next time Hope's Dew Crew does their warm-ups its just going to be a bit more special in tribute to Ernie.  Rest in peace friend.

Are we talking about the same Max Scherzer? If it wasn't for a rough May, he'd be giving JV a run for his money.

Mr. Ypsi

I'll compromise.  "Weakest" was an overstatement, but so is 'giving JV a run for his money'. :D

The starting rotation consists of Verlander and a bunch of guys who vary from great ('perfect' game Galarraga) to horrid, with no indication which will show up on a given day or night.

If Scherzer, Bonderman, Galarraga, Porcello could consistently live up to their potential, the Tigers would win 130 games! ;D

If you remove Max's rough May

Player A: 3.55 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, 8.58 K/9, 2.78 K/BB
Player B: 3.86 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 8.83 K/9, 2.70 K/BB

I'd say that's a 'run for his money.'

Player B is Verlander, and A is Scherzer's April, June, and July. Of course, Justin had a rough April that's included in his numbers, but I hope my point is made. And before someone yells at me, I'm not trying to say that Max is as good as Justin.

I was going to point out that if you remove Max's May, in fairness you have to remove Justin's April, but you beat me to it. ;)

Oh, folks are there...just choosing not to post about it.

As to your last question....a definitive yes, loudly.   ::)

Thank you CM-

I have caught myself multiple times over the years completely losing focus on the game being played (even games I HAVE played in) because of their antics.  I'm as impassioned as the next guy but seriously :)

No surprises, pleasant or unfortunate?  I am completely able to keep a personal message to myself, if that is your wish ;)  I have heard some rumblings about roster changes but I will choose to keep them to myself, for fear of being accused of spreading rumors.  Guess we'll have to wait until school starts to see who shows up for class.

After several years of being able to watch games as a casual fan, or scout at times, I have been asked to get back into the game officially.  As much as I love watching as a "fan" this gig may be too good to pass up.
