Calvin 76

A thriller, with Snikkers missing a three at the buzzer.  Calvin fought hard to stay in the game and had a good chance.

The Haverdink stat line refers to a discussion earlier on the board about how effective he has been.

I don't know what's up with Corey Williams.  Jared Mysliewiec had surgery a couple weeks ago, it was pretty much assumed then it was season ending.

With 4 minutes left, Millikin has yet to register a 2nd half FG.  Six points all on FT's  Adrian leads by 18

Millikin finally got a field goal!  Over 20 minutes between the 1st and 2nd half without a basket!  Gotta be a record.

don't assume.... the initial surgery scheduled would have kept him out for a few weeks. The assumption, or speculation ;) is trying to figure out why he waited so long to have it, when it had been an issue all preseason . During the procedure they discovered more damage but that has little to do with why he's no longer around.  The issues were discussed last fall, and they came to fruition.

Corey Williams left Hope due to lack of floor time.  How long would he have lasted if Bunn had been playing?  Maybe if they had chosen to exclusively sub Logan for Bowser, that could have given Corey a couple more minutes.  I'm not questioning any decisions on playing time, simply thinking of options that would have kept Williams through the season.

Best wishes to both, they both seem to be great kids with a love for the game.

There ain't no way to hide your lyin' eyes

Lyin' Eyes, Eagles

It's amazing how your eyes do deceive. When I saw the stat sheet I did a double take when I saw the Knights only committed 11 turnovers for the game. It seemed like they had that many at the half. Apparently the ones I saw were so glaring it only transformed the number by doubling them.

This Aquinas squad is clearly not the same team Calvin played just three weeks ago. They are a great example of how talent needs to be properly directed in order for the team to win games, and how talent looks more impressive when it is. Dave Hammer has righted the ship and had his guys playing the hardnosed, team sharing game the Saints need to play to beat an opponent. Calvin did do a good job of giving themselves a chance to win without being at the top of their game. Both Snikkers and Schuster were not at there best but DeBoer played a terrific 15 minutes, scoring 17 points on 7-8 from the floor. But it his unfortunate pass in the final minute after coming up with a great steal on the inbounds that was pretty crushing--that combined with Jensen's ridiculous banked three ball seconds earlier. Nonetheless, it's nice to see the Knights have some real scoring options when they go to the bench. Matt and Brad Schnyders combined for 31 points. Bench scoring hasn't been a strength of Calvin basketball in recent seasons but the Knights' offense doesn't come to a halt when Calvin subs in this year.

Kudos to HoopDreams for the news of the two departures, which is confirmed by the new team roster:

And yes, best wishes to them both.  Assuming Jared's issues are injury-related, I hope he returns next year (and laser-shooter Corey as well, though I infer from what's reported here that there's less chance of that).  Many of us found Jared an exciting player, whom we still hope to enjoy watching in the future.  After Peter Bunn and Ty Tanis graduate, his opportunities to shine should be all the greater.

In a recent post game interview, KVS commented how over the course of two games a key player only had 3 defensive errors.  Not everything appears in the stat lines from the box score and players show value in many ways.  Calvin has a deep bench and I don't think Haverdink would be getting as much playing time as he is if coach didn't think he was contriubting.

the million dollar question is this: Will Peter Bunn return................next season?
