Two comments:

  • Calvin defeated a really good team.
  • I'm pretty sure BlueJayTV has better commercials than what Calvin offers.

If I had known they were bringing the Italian Beef, I would have gone to the game as well. You see, Mrs. Wiz likes that too.  Did they bring the peppers too?  Mmmm!

I'm salivating just thinking about it.

Sometimes on the way back to Michigan we have to stop in Merrilville to reload.  And then, of course, when we get back home we finish it off with some Hudsonville Ice Cream.

Definitely one of the best 6-5 teams in D3 history. ;)

BluejayTV really did a pretty nice job.  Not often you see the right guys reported in the game, and scoring, fouling and doing all manner of b-ball type things by an impartial announcer. :)

Barn burner going on at the DeVos.  Hope shoots 56% to be up by 2 at the half.  Had a foul to give at the end of the half and took it.  Smart move.  Refs keeping the whistles quiet.  Only 7 fouls in the entire half.  Wish there was video coverage.  I think it's time for all MIAA teams to get up to speed with that now.

The Elmhurst broadcaster was excellent.  One of the best in all of D3 history.

Calvin was exceptionally mediocre tonight -- just the way I like it.

Don't hold your breath Wiz :).  Webcast would cut into the attendance.
Even the De Vos condiments probably wouldn't be able to offset the pull of watching the game at home FREE.

GK Were you as glib when Calvin went down by 7 early in the second half?
More like here we go again right ???

I think everyone on this board can readily understand why that would be your personal favorite.

Why do I have to wait 24 hours to give you more karma?

Happy Calvin Guy

31-6 run by the Knights to finish the game.  Just what we needed to head into MIAA play with some momentum. Finally showing the ability to deliver the knockout blow and finish the job.  One major difference between today's game and yesterday's was the performance of Danny Rodts.  He was very quiet in 30+ mins yesterday, and put up a nice double double today.  Schuster and Schnyders with a couple of decent offensive games as well both games this week.   Look what we found amongst the "baby Knights": some senior leadership!  Well done Knights, now go beat Hope!

I didn't notice this from the video, but according to the box score, David Rietema got his first minute of action tonight. Was this really the case? The 14:00 minute mark in the second half of, what was then, a close game seems like an odd time to give a player his first playing time of the year.

sac

Defiance 79 Albion 74

Tie game with 1 minute left, DC hits a 3 and carries the game from there.  JC Cruse 22, Anthony Wash 12, Mike Smith 10.

Albion finishes 6-5, a very up and down kind of season so far, a couple good wins, a couple bad losses.  They open at Olivet next Wed.

Hope 86 Malone 80

Krombeen 21, Tanis 15, Bowser 13, Snugeruud 12, Overway 12

Hope finishes the non-conference 7-4 with a 5 game winning streak.  They open MIAA play next Wednesday hosting you know who.

With a strong finish of 4-1 today, the MIAA finishes the non-conference with a dead even record of 43-43.  I'll hold the confetti and ticker tapes, as there were a number of just terrible losses particularly in the last couple weeks.  However 43-43 is the best for this league since 2006.  A record of over .500 was easily attainable and the league fell just short.

2005  46-38  .548
2006  52-34  .605
2007  27-51  .346
2008  34-44  .386
2009  35-46  .432
2010  38-50  .432
2011  43-43  .500

I was really hoping for 45 wins, and a couple of those terrible losses would have done the trick, I suppose it balances out with the so called good wins, though I'm not sure I see too many of those either.

Of greater importance is the conferences in-region record which I believe is 20-14 off the top of my head.

It gets serious now.
