And by difficult, I mean mathematically impossible. Not every turnover has a steal (traveling, offensive foul, simply throwing the ball away) but every steal has a turnover.

could someone help me?  Krombeen is now credited with 10 steals last night?  I don't recall seeing that in the stat line last night, not do I recall that many but the way he is playing this year (aside from offensively last night) nothing would surprise me.  I know MM is the clear MVP choice but I'm not sure anyone is more valuable to his team, with the overall stats to support it, than David.  Amongst the league leaders (conference lines) in rebounding, assists, steals, guessing as/to, while tossing in 13-14 a game overall.  Fairly significant change when he is off the floor (no disrespect to teammates) with the Calvin game as an obvious example.
At what point does MM's lock on the MVP start to fade due to his team's failure to win games?  If Olivet goes 7-7 in the league, will he still ge the MVP?  5-9?  4-10?

Depends on the statistical disparity between him and the rest of the league. 8-6 was good enough last year.

It would be difficult for Hope to have 19 steals as a team considering Alma only turned it over 15 times.

They're making up for the game @ Alma where they will be credited with about half the number of assists and steals they'll get in that game. ;)

MM's only shooting 39% on the conference season. Point totals are nice, but MVP numbers? Not yet.

If he continues to get the defensive attention he received vs Adrian and is still able to produce......I don't think anything will keep him from the MVP.

My perception is admittedly skewed, but it has always seemed to me that Hope players are generously credited with steals in home contests. Has anyone ever looked into home-road steal splits to see if they truly are vastly different?

Interesting thought, but not one I personally have time to investigate.  I did quickly look through the play-by-play from last night's game, however, and found that Krombeen did not register any steals last night.  The 10 listed in his stats line is only listed in one version I found--the one that incorrectly lists Billy Seiler's name next to Nate King's stats.   ::)  Oh well, not the first time someone made a typo.    ;)  (The other version correctly lists zero steals for Krombeen.)

In the Malone game, the play-by-play attests to the 9 steals Krombeen is credited for in his stats line.  Having been there, I can attest to it as well.

Thanks ES.  :)  I was working on a post saying pretty much the same thing.

I have followed b-ball for a long time, but other than a wrong players name, or the wrong player getting credit for a steal, a steal called just a tirnover etc. etc. about the last thing I would worry about is someone "cooking the books" to hype a player or team.

Last four years of conference play combined (28 home games, 28 road games):

Home: 270 steals
Away: 262 steals

Two years Hope had more steals on the road than at home. Two years they had more at home.

Conclusion: no apparent advantage.

Calvin's offense the first 9-10 minutes of the game last night was excellent.  They came out with a purpose and played really well as a team.  Players moved, the ball moved, guys found the open man and they were hitting shots.  When they play like that it is really fun to watch.

My nephew asked me if that was Jimi Hendrix playing the National Anthem.

I applaud the Dark Knights for trying to get something started.  There was a good student showing the last 2 games.  If they can create some noise it would be nice.  I hope the Jim Timmer and the Athletic Department are giving them some support.

Calvin can not have a better advocate than Jim Timmer for both the teams and the student body in general.

Hope students can mock the Dark Knights all they want...now they have an idea of what Calvin students think of stuff like a student running and putting a mountain dew bottle up for a 3 pointer.
