Don't get me wrong I enjoy looking at the top 25 rankings and I am sure a decent amount of work goes into creating them, but how much weight do the D3hoops.com rankings really have?  They aren't part of the NCAA selection process.

Maybe some of the D3 hoops big dogs could comment on this topic.  Do you know if the selection committee personnel like to frequent D3hoops or is the website considered an organization with no authority and legitimacy in the eyes of the NCAA.

d3hoops.com poll has zero influence on tournament selection as far as we know.

Entertainment and discussion purposes only, it a draw to Pat's site since really he's the only one who does a poll anyone takes seriously.  I see the D3Hoops.com poll refered to regularly in the media and on individual school websites.

I didn't see Pat's post either, but I said these things, so perhaps you're thinking of me.  Not that I'm mistaken for Pat very often... ::)

No, but you have been for memphis. ;)

Hope is ranked 2nd in the nation and its only 2 losses are to top 15 teams. Its just incomprehensible that they won't get in no matter what happens this week. Remember that Albion got in last year (with 3 losses) in a tournament that had 11 fewer spots available--and the Brits got a first round bye and then got to host a sectional.

sac

Well, I hope so Oldknight, but the QOWI and the lack of knowledge as to how exactly the committee uses this number has had us fooled more than once.

Hope's QOWI will drop Wed, even with a 50 point win, or a 1 point win.  I think they NEED to beat Albion on Friday and not meet Adrian in the semi's.  Albion would be a 15 point win on a neutral court.  I think that would be enough to keep the QOWI high enough.

All I know is Capital thought they were in a few years ago ........Wheaton thought they were in  two years ago with equally stellar records.

The d3hoops.com poll has no bearing on selection, if so the MIAA would be a shoe-in for three teams.

I honestly like Albion's chances of a C if there aren't a lot of upsets, and they make the semi's....minimum.

This is where we all wish the DIII system was like the DI system.  Take the automatic bids and then take the best x number of teams to fill the tournament,  if this was the case Albion would be in for sure.  Of course that isn't how this system works.  The system is set up by regions so strong regions like the GL have deserving teams sitting home while other regions send teams like York(Pa.)  to the Final Four.

Sac: I know. I know. By the numbers and the system set up it might be possible that Hope would have problems if things don't work out well this week. But it's still incomprehensible. You've practically got to be a lawyer to understand and appreciate the regulations set up by the NCAA--now if we could only find a good one. The law sir, is an ass.

If the seedings play out as they should in the first round, how do you guys feel about Hope having to beat Albion and Calvin on a nuetral court then in a road game. Actually both will probably turn into road games since most Calvin fans at the  Hope-Albion game would most likely be rooting for Albion to win understandably so.

Hope is a very talented veteran group.  I see them playing well this week, especially with a tournament berth on the line.  Bubble talk doesnt matter if you win the whole thing.  I just want to see Calvin play them like they did on Feb. 8, not like what we saw in Holland.  I really see this conference tournament as an inevitable third meeting between Calvin and Hope and I expect a good final.

mjfasteenwolf

You're right Ziggy, they are very experienced and talented, I think if they show up with some heart it is their tourney to win. Hopefully for us Dutchmens sake they do, else it will be the second I on the back of the warmups not met.

Hoping your team shows up with Heart at this time of the season is not a ringing endorsement of the #2 ranked Dutch.

Wasn't meant to be, their heart has been the only thing holding them back.

Personally I'd be a little scared to play the dutchmen right now. While they might be ranked #2 in the country, they have a lot to prove to a lot of people.

If not winning the regular season championship in addition to being considered a bubble team isn't motivation to kick some serious tail, I don't know what is.

To whomever is suiting up against the fellows in Orange and Blue, good luck, because I think this is a team that's playing with a chip on their shoulder.

I didnt realize but apparently Olivet College is still very active in DIII wrestling, despite being dropped from the MIAA many years ago.  They just won the team competition at the Midwest Regional.  Maybe they should wrestle the Knights on Wednesday instead of playing Basketball.

Yep Olivet has been a solid D3 program for many years, dating back to a guy named Jare Klein.  He built a top-notch program there and when the MIAA dropped grappling the Comets stuck with it.  With as many good high school wrestling programs as there are in the state of Michigan it seems like a good move to me.  Glad to see they're doing well.

BogeyMan

I really believe you Hope fans are scared for nothing .  Hope will be in regardless of what happens Wednesday.  I think they are in now!  They may not play at home, but there in.   I have no statistical basis for my thoughts, just common sense.  Here is a question for those with more knowledge about the NCAA entries than I:  When is the last time a top 5 team in the nation was kept out the NCAA tournament?

BogeyMan

More questions - who selects the teams from the Great Lakes Region.  A National Committee or a Great Lakes Committee?  Is the Qowi officially used or is that just for fun?
