Dejavu all over again... I seem to remember a simular play a couple of weeks ago just before "the shot"

Get your hands on a copy of the tape.  VanderHeide changed pivot feet at least twice before that anyway.  Plus, the last foot Meckes had down on the court was in bounds.  Not to keep and old subject going but I think you should really take another look and you'll see Hope was lucky to even have that chance because of the travel.

The tape lies!!! I saw it with my own two eyes!!!    :P Calvin went for the dager and won... it hurt so bad I the next day I jumped on a plane to Antigua and didn't look at the posts for 8 days... okay so maybe the trip to Antigua was planned... but I found my happy place on and island away from everything...

Pool C candidates from the region may breath easy for  tonight at least........the usual carnage that occurs in the OAC didn't happen this year as all the top seeds BW, ONU, Muskingum and Wilington all won..........and no other shockers on the board tonight.

....still early though.

mmmmmmm  Antigua.  Some of the best bodysurfing in the Caribbean.

Hope says the tape lies, Kzoo says the refs cost them two games against Albion, Dozie says the refs are racist... Anyone else want to add anything?

How was Olivet 6-20 this season?  They have some pretty good ball players on that team.

Let me add that the Olivet fans(maybe just one) were(was) pretty interesting at the game.

Same problem as always for Olivet.......they never achieve the last word in this sentence.

I dont know much about their coach other than what I have observed but he seems too interested in the things he can't control during a game rather than the things he can.  When the margin of loss is equal to the amount of points given up on thechnical foul free throws you should really be kicking yourself for missing an opportunity because of poor self control.

Two stats of the night for Hope, 9-22 from 3

To put this in perspective, they were 7-13 in the first half. The starting 5 are beginning to heat up for the dutchmen I think.

Tonight Calvin got cheated of an opportunity to prove they were ready to play and take on the last place team in the league.  There is no one who really understands Basketball that will be able to be happy with how things transpired.  Calvin has a great team and a tremendous coach and that should not be lost in this.  The sad part is they will never know if they could have won the game on their own.  When you clearly have the benefit of an official that has an agenda during a contest you are never able to truly appreciate what you have accomplished.  The Calvin players and coaches will have to wonder for the rest of their lives if they could have won this game tonight without the help.

The Miaa prides itself on having so much class and being the leader in sportsmanship that it bothers me to no end how a game like this can ever happen.  How can Joe Cooper assign an official with such a blatant level of disrespect for the league, schools, players, and coaches involved.  The Bald headed guy wasn't biased as much as he was just plain bad but at least he was bad moderately fair.  The tall younger guy is a very good official that got caught carrying and protecting the other two.  I Promise you that if you asked him and got an honest answer from him he too would say what happened tonight was a disgrace and he is embarrassed to be a part of it

The only way this problem is going to be fixed in this league is if the big three coaches that have been here for a long time step up and say the MIAA will have the best quality officiating in the country and we as a league will no longer accept officials like tonight.  When great officiating happens in this league the games are amazing and everyone involved gets to enjoy a part of life that they will never forget.

Tonight all the two teams that played and the 850 or so fans that were there can talk about is the officiating.  Isn't it sad that all the possible good things that could be talked about are lost and gone forever because Joe Cooper failed to do as quality of a job as this league deserves and two officials decided the game was about them and not the schools or the players.

No, that would be Pat Hughes shouting, "The Cubs win the pennant! The Cubs win the pennant!" His partner Ron Santo would be shouting, "Aaarraaaragh! Alllll riiiight! Arraaaghaargh!"

Believe me, I have played out this scenario often enough in my head to know.  :D

A couple more thoughts on last night's game at the Fieldhouse.

Dustin Smith hit a jumper with 14:31 left in the game to put Calvin up 46-40. Calvin scored 36 points the rest of the game and 31 came from the charity stripe. The Knights made only 2 field goals the last 14:31 and still won the game because Olivet kept fouling and Calvin kept making free throws.

Calvin also won because they dealt much better with frustration than did Olivet. The ability to deal with frustration is an overlooked quality in the on court success of a basketball team (I wonder if the 2 T's Calvin got in the Albion game and the need to just play the game is something they talked about this week?). Olivet did not deal well with frustration and Soderberg (and, to a lesser extent Dozie) cost his team a real chance at a major upset. Soderberg's first T was particularly silly since it followed a shooting foul (and Dozie's T) and created a higher hill to climb that Olivet could never quite surmount.
