That was two weeks ago, or maybe October.........or if you live in Columbus it probably feels like its near.

Just found that the Holland summer rec league schedule is available (which includes Hope, Hope Alum, Calvin, Cornerstone, Aquinas, and a Gugino team).  Games begin next Monday for us die-hards who need a summer fix of hoops.

Gugino?

Translation:  Another mostly Hope team.  The Gugino clan has many basketball players, more than one of whom played for Hope (right?), and a few others Hope would have liked to have had.  The last couple of years Hope's Derek VanSolkema has also played w/ the Gugino team, in the absence of a Hope alum team.

Heard today that Albion guard Chris Hutton (Lapeer West) had an accident with a lawn mower while working a summer job.  Not sure of all the details but sounds like several fingers were partially severed and sewn back on.  It was his shooting hand.  Sounds like he will miss this season but hopes to make a comeback.

Mr. Ypsi

OUCH!!  Here's hoping for a fast and full recovery for Chris.

Oh man!  So sorry to hear this.  Will be praying for a full recovery and lots of patience in the meantime.

Ditto!

My prayer for him is for him to be able to type on a keyboard this time next year!

That's a huge blow for the 2011-2012 Albion squad. Here's to hoping for a full recovery and a return to MIAA action! Never fun to hear news like this, no matter who you root for.

Let's not forget that fan favorite, Kolin Kasen also plays with the Gugino team.  ;)

found this snippet of a recruiting article containing a mention of future Dutchmen Jake Everly from Illinois.

Everly was on Northwest Herald All-Area second team the past two seasons, helping Marian Central to Class 3A regional titles both seasons. He averaged 15 points a game and hit 49 three-pointers, both of which ranked fifth among area players. Everly set the Jacobs Holiday Classic single-game scoring record with a 45-point performance.

Everly said Richmond-Burton graduate Ben Thomas, a student assistant with Hope's program and an Everly family friend, was instrumental in him picking the school. Also, Mark Thompson, whose son Kyle was Everly's teammate, attended Hope and spoke highly of the school.

Everly visited Hope on a weekend that the Flying Dutchmen won the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association title.

"They have a senior [point guard] this year and one who will be a junior," said Everly, who is 6-2 and played his sophomore season at Niles Notre Dame. "They didn't guarantee anything. They told me we'll see how I match up with everyone, but I have a chance to play some varsity [as a freshman]."

Everly visited D-I Southern Utah recently and was extended an offer to walk on for the first year and receive scholarship money after that. Ultimately, his decision came down to Hope and St. Norbert in De Pere, Wis.

"I had to think about those," Everly said. "Hope's a good place. I'm excited about it."

Don't know if this has been posted yet, but the Calvin schedule indicates a Friday/Saturday MIAA tournament. I would assume that's at the #1 seed.
