Adrian's schedule is out   http://www.adrianbulldogs.com/sports/m-baskbl/2011-12/schedule

marquee game is Dec 3 hosting Wooster.

A really heavy November is followed by a light December, only 3 games for a month before kicking off the MIAA  (with Calvin and Hope no less).......must be looking for another game.

A Calvin people search does not return results for the following players listed on last years' Varsity and JV rosters:

Mike Fabiyi
Jake Greene
Alex Cavazos
Alex Mustert

That makes at least six open varsity spots (4 graduating sr's + Fabiyi/Greene).  I count mention on this board of 5 incoming players (freshmen/transfers) so that would imply at least one JV player, if not 2 or 3, will get a shot on the varsity roster in 2011-12.  I didn't personally attend any JV games last year so I don't have a good feel for the prospects.  Any insight?

Seems that KVS usually likes to take 14 for varsity. They ended up at 15 when Salo got hurt in the preseason; Fabiyi split time on JV/Varsity from there. So he could only take five more for varsity.

I didn't see near as many JV games as I should have, but Jordan Mast, Jake Mantel, and Nate Van Eck all strike me as guys that could crack the roster.

I find the comments on the help from Calvin's J V interesting.  After watching a couple of J V games just to see if there was likely to be any help for the varsity next year, I came up with the same 3 players as likely to help the varsity--Nate Van Eck because of his ability to post up successfully, Jordan Mast because of his deadly shot, and Jake Mantel because of his strength and overall play.  Had Alex Cavazos stayed, he might have had a shot at guard with his ball handling ability.

Suppose there is no evidence to support this, other than speaking to a buddy with WMU hoop ties.  Can anyone chime in on the notion of Hope playing down in K-zoo this year?  Has anyone heard anything? WMU's schedule isn't up and I believe Hope has 1 open date left.  I had heard rumors of CMU earlier this spring but I think that was just a mish-mash of hopes of the post player from CMU transferring in.

M & G.  If you look back over recent Calvin history it is pretty much a safe bet that 7 of the 9 man rotation for this coming year is set.  KVS, to his credit, is not afraid to play and start fr. if they are good enough.  My guess would be Dykstra gets a shot at pt., and that leaves one slot in the rotation open for either another fr., jv from last year or a transfer.  Player 10, and possibly 11 may see some pt. if games go right or injury, but once MIAA starts they join 12, 13 and 14 as "the invisibles".

I've heard the rumor as well, and it came from a WMU source.  Haven't a thing to back that up with though.

Most likely this will not be known until Western Michigan releases its schedule.  The bat phone can ring very late in the year for the mid-majors and when superhero's call  with their bags of cash, you drop everything and go.........no matter who you leave to dance by themselves.

I can't remember if Olivet's schedule was posted or not, but here it is.....

http://www.olivetcomets.com/sports/mbkb/2011-12/schedule

Noteworthy that the Ferris State game will continue Olivet's streak of playing at least one D2 to about 10 years or something.

.....and Bethany WV coming all the way over to little ol' Olivet is newsworthy, on a Thursday even.

December 3 is shaping up to be a very big day in the MIAA non-conference schedule.

Olivet @ Elmhurst
Wooster @ Adrian
Hope v Carthage at Calvin
Wheaton @ Calvin
North Park @ Trine
Kzoo @ Chicago

------------------------------------------------------------

November 7,  Albion will play one of the exhibition type games vs Oakland University.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Lastly,  Hope released the opponents for its two home tournaments.

Dec 9-10 Holland Sentinel Tournament which will not be a tournament this year but a "classic" format.

Fri.
Purdue-North Central vs Mt Vernon Nazerene
Hope vs Marion, IN
Sat.
Purdue-North Central vs Marion, IN
Hope vs Mt. Vernon Nazerene, OH

The Russ DeVette Tournament is a traditional tournament.

Grace Bible vs Indiana Wesleyan
Hope vs Marietta

Mr. Ypsi

The topic of 'the hot hand' has been hashed out here, but something new from a different sport.  Dan Uggla has now set an Atlanta record hitting streak with 32 straight games - he is now hitting .224 for the season!  I would assume his average starting the streak must have been at or below .150.  I'm not quite sure how one would calculate the odds on this, but I would guess it must be somewhere north of a billion to one. ::)

Despite definitely 'feeling' the 'hot hand', I agree with my fellow statisticians that it is a myth, but wonder how they will respond to this latest 'anomaly'.

Mr. Y,
Dan Uggla was batting .173 when he started his streak on July 5th. He is now up to .229 after his 3 for 3 game on Friday night. I don't know how hot his hands are but his bat is on fire! No one in the history of Major League Baseball has ever had a lower batting average with a streak this long. All year us Braves fans were waiting to see when he'd break out of his season long slump. I figured the Mendoza Line was going to become the Uggla Line. Glad to see him overcome all the adversity that came with the territory.
