Back to the Hope talk.  Don't you just love this photo of the Drew Crew, who last night were almost as entertaining as the BB game:

Taking a quick break from the Hope talk:

Alma snags Brandon Trefil, one of the stars of the D Fulton-Middleton, who according to the website of his AAU team, committed to come to Alma next season. http://www.centralallstars.com/index.html

With the games listed on mlive.com it shows Trefil averaging about 11 points per game...

Looks like a good "get."  Congrats!  Thanks for passing the info along!
2014 MIAA Pick 'Em Champion  :)

March, 1993:  With other Hope fans I sat in the Salem Civic Center rooting for IWU as it battled the infamous Rowan University team to the wire in the national semis.  (Rowan, for any newcomers, was loaded with DI and DII players who had used up their eligibility, but could play another year at a DIII school--leading soon after to the "Rowan rule" precluding such from happening again.)  Alas, Rowan won, as I recall, on a tip in at the game's end.

Hope and IWU fans had wished for our teams--from kindred schools marked by academic excellence and a great BB tradition--to meet in the championship.  It's not the championship game, but in three hours . . . 19 years later . . . the IWU/Hope matchup belatedly tips off--a fitting finale to this weekend.

Over on the CCIW board, the illustrious Titan Q (who blends what KnightSlappy and Sac so wonderfully contribute to this MIAA board) has this interesting historical fact (quoting):

------------------
Tonight will be IWU's 6th NCAA tournament game vs a D3hoops.com #1 or #2-ranked team in the last 12 season.  All five were on the road...

2010 (Round 2 at Wash U)
IWU 75
#1 Wash U 70

2006 (Round 3 at Lawrence)
IWU 71
#1 Lawrence 68

2004 (Round 2 at Hanover)
IWU 77
#2 Hanover 67

2003 (Round 2 at Wash U)
IWU 85
#2 Wash U 73

2001 (Round 4 at Chicago)
IWU 77
#1 Chicago 68

IWU is an incredible 5-0 in these games.  Here's hoping the Titans can find a little magic in Holland tonight!

The Rowan games were in 1996; I cringed when I opened the NCAA program last night and saw a picture of them celebrating.  Of all the teams to show a picture of, did it have to be Rowan?

And I think it's time to end that streak IWU is on!

sac

No profound words from me today, just hope to see a well played game tonight.

Thanks for the correction, Monsoon.

And I just noticed one other thing . . . that all those IWU victories against #1 ranked teams were on the #1 teams' home floors.  Ouch.  Yes, enough!

For Hope? It's there; same as last night.

Was looking right at it....geez...long day

Did Holwerda have 2 or 3 first-half fouls?  The livestats has him picking up 3 fouls, but two were just 3 seconds apart.

Much agreed. You won't get away with being that little in college...
