I assume the 16th man is really a non issue - as Evan Hare is not able to play due to his back problems.

Reasonable worries John. I won't ever pick against our coach, who has the ability to walk on water. I would have thought after the Van Andel dabacle that Calvin would stuggle to be .500. A week is an awful long time for KVS. I'm sure he'll have the troops ready to play.

New T-Shirt logo coming soon:  KVSWOW! !!(walks on water)

Hey, who said I was complaining. I'll look at it as an honor. So who wants to talk about DVS?

I did like the Calvin student sections chant of "Daddy's Boy" Saturday night. ;)

Anyway, great weekend of basketball at the K'crest. Congrats, to Hope and validating at least one of those Roman numerals on the back of their tees. The only thing I could think of all game was "how in the heck did we beat them?" Hope is much better with Reimink on the floor as opposed to Phillips. That's just my opinion, but he adds that toughnest that Andy seems to lack.

I'm going to have to disagree with you here, Shareef.  While Reimink brings a different energy to the floor, has performed well in the last few games, and seems to have more visibility, Phillip's presence is a force I for one would not want to be without.  He's a "quiet" player -- even after watching him nearly every game for 4 years, there are still games (like the Albion one) where I don't fully realize all he has brought to the floor until after the game.  He and Carlson get things done, especially defensively, without being noticed alot of the time.  Good for them!  Chad Carlson was that way too.  Hope is not better with Reimink on the floor -- not hurt, by any means, but not better.

I will say that what Jesse is bringing to the floor now (compared to early in the season), is more valuable in my eyes that what Veldhouse is bringing to the floor right now (that ugly 1.7 second period of time notwithstanding).  I vote for Reimink for favorite freshman!   ;D

I don't think so. Veldhouse is the difference between 22-6 (and a conference championship) and 16-11 (and a 3rd place finish). If both Caleb and Jessie had watched Saturday's game from the bleachers Hope would have won by more than 13.

I think your undervalueing Caleb at 16 wins.  ;D ;)

I'd give Hope another win, Albion 2 more wins, Tri-State a win, Kzoo a win, Olivet a win........ok yeah thats 6.

You must have gone to the Isiah Thomas school of talent evaluation.  Please take your
orange and blue colored glasses off and get a clue.

That's a very good point. KVS does have a good track record when his team has time to prepare

Actually your first thought might have been right. Caleb hit a jumper with 2 seconds left to win the regular season game with Olivet at the Fieldhouse (and 11 of the last 13 scored by Calvin as I recall) in addition to going 14-14 at the line in the conference tourney opener. Olivet wins both games at Knollcrest if Veldhouse doesn't play. Nice to realize this kid is only a freshmen.

saying Reimink was his favorite freshman doesn't necessarily have anything to do with talent.  Pat McMahon was my favorite guy on the Hope men's soccer team this year not because he was the most talented player on the field, but because he made the game more interesting by knocking the crap out of some people.

in a completely separate note, my new favorite little tool is the email/forum spell checker on the Google Toolbar.  its handy!

Perhaps I should clarify (and yes, I realize it won't change the maroon and gold colored glasses).  At the beginning and middle of the season, I found Veldhouse to be amazing, and have said so openly.  I thoroughly enjoyed watching his preseason play, and admit that he is very talented.  I noticed a change over the weekend however.  I did not see him playing as strongly as he has previously, even against Kzoo.  Just my opinion of course, like Shareef's opinion about Phillips.

My comment about favorite freshman was a personal one -- early in the season I very much enjoyed watching Veldhouse and all he brought to the floor.  Heck, I was a tad jealous.  I'm no longer quite as impressed (just slightly less), and I'm really liking what Reimink is bringing to the floor as of late.  So, in my personal opinion (have I stated that enough yet?), Reimink is currently my favorite freshman player to watch.

Sorry for any confusion -- you can unbunch the maroon and gold panties now.   :P

I would have to agree, every night I cry myself to sleep wondering why I didn't follow in the footsteps of 99 percent of my graduating class, and that of every other Christian High School in West Michigan who all are so much smarter than me and took the right path be going to Calvin. They are the smart 99% while me and the other 1% percent who chose to rebel by leaving the CRC have to deal with the shame of being Raiders, Lakers, of even one of those despicable Dutchmen.

Haha, just had to throw that out there, one of the frustrations of living your whole life in West Michigan. Want to wish the best of the to the Dutchmen and the Knights this weekend. I am hopign to see some awesome basketball.
