This years Calvin team couldn't handle DeVos, they would have been run out of Knollcrest.  ;)

Speaking of DeVos, it appears at the moment to be in the hands of UW-Whitewater, DePauw, Williams and Amherst. ;) ;) ;)

At least it isn't DePauw, Williams, Amherst and Calvin.  ;D

Who would win in a head-to-head game: '05 Calvin or '13 Calvin?

I'm leaning toward this year's team right now.

In all seriousness, I'm sure slappy is aware that '13 Calvin has a pretty substantial efficiency advantage over '05 Calvin.  Enough to make me think '13 Calvin would have the edge.   However the '05 MIAA was quite a bit better as Albion was an NCAA quarter-finalist and both Hope and Adrian had NCAA tournament caliber talent.  Not quite sure this years Trine were as good as Hope and Adrian that year.

If given the same path the '13 team would be playing Wooster this weekend, and not St. Thomas.

Just taking a look at the Tommie's roster and minutes breakdown, if its going to be a possession game they will need to really work for the good shot (which from the stats looks like they do consistently). Hannon is really going to have his work cut out for him. Listed at 6-7, he's going to be right in the thick of it with Kruis, Dykstra, Stout and Devries. I wouldn't mind seeing Stout and Kruis on the floor at the same time if the game allows for it and maybe go with the big lineup of Tommy at the 2 and Brink at the 1. ST only has 1 other player above 6-5 averaging more than 5 minutes a game. Either way, I feel like this one is going to be a barn burner
As we saw against RHIT smaller big men opponents don't score much no matter how quick.

It is interesting to see coach KVS put in Nadeau so early. Any idea why???

Calvin down by 5 at the half.  Powell having a great game.  Go Knights!
Not gonna win this game if they keep throwing the ball away.  Tommies are putting way to much pressure on the front court and they're not making good decisions.  At least the video feed is much better.

Is this announcer trying to be Gus Johnson?  Or is he a former wrestling announcer?  Either way, I do prefer him over announcers who are too droll (or Dan Dokich).

Great game!  Calvin currently down 1 with 20 seconds.  IMO, you have to take this shot around 7 or 8 seconds because you can board or foul a miss.  Also, Thommies have no timeouts, so no time to set anything up.

P.S.  Announcer just asked if they should foul?!?  Calvin's in the bonus goofball.

Bryan Powell with the game of his life, pouring in 31 points.
But he needed a little more help.
Knights fall at No. 1 St. Thomas, 63-62.
Great year for the Knights, and outstanding careers come to an end tonight for Powell, Tom Snikkers, David Reitema and Matt DeBoer.
Snikkers finished with 11 points, but Calvin got only 6 from Tyler Kruis and 3 from Jordan Brink.

It goes to show just how a bad second half start can kill a team.

Ugh!  Did exactly what they should not have done...took the shot with no time left to do anything with a miss.  Powell did get a nice shot though, but still.

Also, I know Powell was on fire, but why don't teams actually RUN A FREAKING PLAY!  Pick and roll anyone?  Drive and kick?  Something.   If that was a good scoring play why don't you just run it every time down?  Because it's not!

very nice season Calvin.  Heartbeaker.

Well, we were informed that "[Bryan is] not even a homeless Drew" or whatever that post stated. Heck of a game, and to do it on the road.

Dave Reidema played with a broken arm today (thus Nadeu)
Knights!

Tough loss for the Knights against an obviously very good St Thomas squad. The Tommies were pretty much as advertised--a quality shooting team that tries to force the tempo and force turnovers. Calvin did a much better job handling the ball in the second half--only four turnovers after the break. The two teams combined for a pathetic 13-32 from the stripe, while going 18-38 from the arc. Powell finishes his career with over 1000 points. Rietema said to play with a broken arm. How do you do that?

If you want to talk about next season, well . . . gentlemen, start your engines.
