bulldogalum - completely understandable - I'm guessing that the effect on you is why some of our fans sit there (of course it could be that those were the only seats they could find).  Anyhow - not to worry about you winning up here - we're undefeated on this floor  ;D

NW Hope Fan, the MIAA does have a policy about  fan seating sections.  Hope officials have an annoying habit of letting the hope fans sit where ever they feel entitled  to.

You Hopesters need to lighten up a bit I think.

There's only two things I hate in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures and the Dutch.

FDF,  did you decide to go with the same pair Glen wore down in Mexico? I bet the blue hairs will be all over you

Stinger,

As far as I know, the only policy about seating for visiting fans, is for certain games at the Civic, an allotted number of tickets were given to visiting teams. A "designated area" for students was typically in the opposite corner from the Hope student section. But other than the "faculty/staff section" the rest of the bleachers in the Civic were "general admission". That means sit where you may. Most gyms in the MIAA, other than the home student section, are general admission. In the several hundred Hope games I have been to, around the league, I've sat elbow to elbow with the home team's fans, because there was no "Hope section".

If there were brave, and maybe annoying souls who wanted to sit in your lap and piss you off at the Civic... more power to them. You had the same right and opportunity at either your place or our place.

I think it is a dumb thing to bitch about, when you easily could have driven the person away with your drunk football team.

It took $22 million and over 50 years to finally get a regulation size court; congratulations Hope College!

So, here we go!

No pick-ems until the MIAA season starts, I gather?

Anyone want to venture a guess on the winner of the Calvin-Grace Bible game tonight?

goodknight

I'll take the Knights by 15, DK, but did you see that Aquinas needed a last second basket to beat Grace Bible last week?
Calvin has a very different look this year, but I'm excited to see the Calvin Tip-Off Tourney tonight.  We'll get our first look at the freshman starting point guard, Caleb Velthouse, from Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  We'll see how much Kyle Snoeyink has improved his overall game.  We'll see whether Josh Meckes can develop into a scoring threat.  Those are three big question marks for the Knights.  If the answers are good ones, that frees up Andy Draayer and Kyle Trewhella to be very effective.
Calvin's bench is really young and unproven, but I've heard that KVS really likes the potential he sees.
We'll be able to tell more after tonight and tomorrow afternoon.

Lets see, last years Final Four team beat Grace by 49 so i'll say this young inexperienced team will have a tough game.  I say Calvin by 30.

As George Blaha would probably say "Welcome to another exciting year of MIAA basketball."

I'll take Calvin by 18

DK - No picks till the conference season begins.  You can make your pre-conference pick for the final conference standings though.  Just post them on the MIAA Pick 'Em page

The knights did manage to win, 71-55, vs. a school where 15% of the male student body is on the basketball team.  (Actually, Grace Bible doesn't look too bad. They have four senior starters who can play and a couple of transfers who are contributing, including a 6'8" backup center aka brick wall and another new player that Calvin recruited heavily.)

The game was a sloppy, especially for Calvin on offense, but that's not too surprising since they were running all their freshmen and new sophomores through the rotation.

Some unfamiliar names atop the scoring leaders board -- Meckes with 17 and freshman point guard Caleb Veldhouse with 13. Veldhouse looks solid -- and so does the other freshman point guard, Dustin Smith, who had 7  points. Smith is good at driving it to the basket and he's very quick. It's not often you see two freshman point guards playing in the same game, at the same time!

A couple of Goodknight's questions seem to have received some positive answers -- Veldhouse looks solid and Meckes can score. Didn't see too much interior scoring by anyone else, though.

I, too, liked what I saw from the two freshmen point guards.  And Meckes is just a beast in the paint.  He had 19 rebounds to go with his 17 points.  But KVS will need to get some more interior offense than he did tonight from either Bear DeVries or Kyle Snoeyink.  Trewhella got off to a great start, but then was pretty quiet on his way to 12 points.  And Draayer looked like he was still in the thin air of Denver -- only 6 points on a couple of bombs, but he was clearly off his game.  There was, other than Draayer, no lack of effort on the floor.

KnightSlappy

I also agree a VERY sloppy game by the Knights.  There were, however, a few numbers that I would like to highlight.  The first number is ZERO as in ZERO turnovers by freshman PG Caleb Veldhouse.  This kid is for real. He dropped in 13 points made some nice dishes and showed an ability to drive inside.  The Next two numbers are 17 and 19 which come off of Josh Meckes' scorecard.  He put in a game high 17 points and grabbed 19 boards, 11 of which were on offense.  He is the key to the success of the Knights this season.  I wasn't really impressed with the rest of the game.  Hopefully the KVS will work out his rotation and we will start to see this team get into a groove.

MIAAFAN3002

Brandon Crawford scores 38 points on 17 for 20 shooting in just 31 minutes.  He also had 13 rebounds.  The brits did lose to UM Dearborn 88-77...It looks like they had no support to go with Crawford.

Adrian gets smoked by a good Bethany team 83-54.  One guy in double figures for the bulldawgs.  No Mike Lewis in the box score though.  I wonder if he didnt get in or if he isnt playing.

Olivet with a 50 point win against Andrews.  I dont know if Olivet is really good or Andrews is really bad but 50 points is still an impressive victory no matter who its against.  I am guessing Andrews isn't a very good team.

What up everyone!  Glad to be back on the new format.

Bulldogs drop tough one tonight to Bethany.  Bethany won their conference and have pre-season All-American twins to deal with and four returning starters back from a 24-4 team in 2004-05.

Anyways.

Adrian has....

No Nokovich
No Lewis
No Novak
No Schaefer

That means.....

No win!

Lewis is thinking about playing.  Probably won't now that he made the Aztec Bowl.  The Division III Hula Bowl.  Congrats to him.  That could be a big loss.  Not that he provides a bunch of points, but he does bring some physical play with him and some emotion.

Without him, nobody will talk or yell.  Somebody better...

Nokovich isn't on the team this year and I think it showed tonight.  No true PG.

Billy Collins gets held in check, while a surprise sophomore with no varsity game experience comes in throws in 22 or something like that.

B Crawford going off.  UM Dearborn good?  Last time I saw them play was two years ago against Adrian.  I know they joined the ever so fading WHAC last year.

UNDER 12 HOURS til the game!

Dark Knight

Massey would have favored last year's Albion team over Bethany by 15 at home.
