Calvin fans heading to Olivet by chance.   I-69 is closed just south of the I-96 interchange due to multiple accidents on both side of the freeway.

Kalamazoo at Hope now scheduled for Monday at 7:30.

Adrian at Alma also postponed. Will now be played Monday at 8:00.

Alma & Kalamazoo swim teams having a "virtual meet" - which means each team swims the events in their own pool and then you simply compare times to determine winners. Interesting solution to the weather issues.

Today was to have been Senior Day for swimmers and divers at Hope. Not sure when this is going to be rescheduled, but that's too bad for the parents and children, although it's the right decision. I drove down from Traverse City to watch it and the driving was treacherous. I wonder if Hope and Calvin discussed the merits of a "virtual meet" for today. Do they have video streaming in the Dow?

They better not!

I'm listening to the Olivet broadcast team and have already gleaned a couple of insights:

--No Blake Krum. Announcer said he has a fracture in the hand. Big loss for the Comets.

--Apparently Calvin has changed their nickname. They're now the Black Knights.

The hay is getting in the barn pretty early for Calvin over Olivet, with Calvin up by about 30 with under 10 left

Final was 95-53 as Calvin outscored Olivet 59-27 in the second half. Olivet announcers claimed that at one point Calvin made 17 consecutive shots. Most of them were layups.

Info requested: I rarely miss Calvin's home games, but rarely attend their away games.

I'd like to go to the Albion game on Wednesday, but am wondering about getting tickets (don't want to drive down there and then not get in). Can tickets be purchased at Calvin? If not, can they be ordered online? If not, how early would I need to arrive to be sure to get a ticket? Should I just watch it online? Any other advice?

Thanks!

You can walk up to any game at Albion at the tipoff and get in.  No presales of tickets (that's really only a Hope/Calvin game thing).

Just looking at the stats for the Calvin/Olivet game.  Does Olivet normally have 50% of their shots as 3 pointers?

According to statistics provided by the MIAA website, in 16 games Olivet has taken 40.6% of their shots (431 of 1061) from the three point line. Today, 44.1% of Comet shots (30 of 68) were threes. By contrast, only 26.4% of Calvin shots taken in 17 games (265 of 1002) have been three point attempts.

Wow, after watching UM-MSU, I'll never again complain about MIAA officiating.

A few thoughts about today's game at Olivet:

--I'm very happy (and relieved) that Calvin got the game in today. I really didn't want to see the Knights have to play three next week, especially with the huge matchup at Albion looming. Now the Knights can get their normal prep time in for Wednesday's game. Meanwhile, Hope plays Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, with the last of that trio being what could be a tough game at Trine. That's not ideal for the Flying Dutchmen.

--Brad Visser got into the game early and played 15 minutes for Calvin, scoring 7 points on 3-5 from the floor. After the game, KVS was asked and commented that trying to get Visser into games has been a bit of a challenge but that the freshmen is making very good progress. Coach sounded quite upbeat about Visser and then added (I'm going by memory here) that "there is no doubt that Brad will play a lot in his time at Calvin."

--I'm intrigued by Olivet's Adam Rayner. It's not often a 7 footer plays in D3 and the ones that do typically are not the least bit athletic. He's not quick and needs some work with his footwork but I thought Rayner showed a pretty nice touch around the basket. If he shows just slow but steady improvement he could be a force in this league in a couple of years. Today he blocked a pair of shots by Calvin's big guys--seemingly without even trying.
