FDF:  Finally some Hope fan thinks they will win big along with me. (I have Hope +22).
Are all Hope fans so afraid of Calvin they pick LAX?

Not at all... I'm rooting for Calvin... I know we can beat Calvin with no problem... we have already done so over 159 mintues and 59.3 seconds of hoops this year.

I absolutely love all the huge Hope win predictions. The pressure is squarely on the Dutch this year, no doubt about that. I believe Calvin will win but I also know it will definitely be a tough game. However, if the Knights lose they have still far exceeded everyone's expectations, including this loyal fan. I have seen them play a lot & I truly believe they will play their best ball in the tournament, as they have done so many times before.
Well I'm on my way to an early bite to eat & then to Holland.
Go Knights!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Technically, we were ahead for about the first 8-10 minutes of the blowout at the Devos.  Then the wheels, axles and transmission fell off...

Dren,

Be careful what you wish for. You may want to look at Hope's record in the NCAA tourney before making such a bold prediction. All the pressure is clearly on Hope to live up to the expectations. Calvin has already accomplished more than I thought they would this year. I have seen them play a lot & they seem to save their best ball for crunch time & play their best when they are not expected to win.
Go Knights!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AndersDY

159 min 58.3 seconds, dren, but point taken

I'm tempted to say Hope big, but Glenn will want to save his big guns as much as he can for a presumably tougher matchup on Saturday. It will be a game that is clearly in control but more like 12-15 points. Anybody from Wisconsin is tough, but this is a home game for Calvin. Only a 5-7 point win, but a bit decisive. And when these picks turn into complete stupidity, well it'll still be fun to watch.

Go Hope and Go Woo tonight

To tack onto Andersdy's point and the Rodney Dangerfields from Calvin, I think you have to say that the advantage falls squarely with the team with the easier first-round match up with games on back-to-back days.

I saw this first hand in the tournament last year at Albion.  Calvin played first against Mississippi College and blew them out, allowing KVS to use his starters sparingly.  Albion followed with a really tough game against John Carroll that came down to a final second three point make by Michael Thomas.  While it was a huge rush for Albion to win that game, the team was truly gassed for the game against Calvin.

Big night for the MIAA. Personally, I'm ****ing for big wins from Calvin AND the other Dutchmen. Waht Michigander wouldn't want to send the Wisconsinites back across the lake early?? Maybe the MIAA conference could get three teams in next year with a great showing this year.

Either way the ball bounces for the Knights tonight, though, it will provide the youngsters with great experience, and ****fully fuel for next year's run.

I'll be listening, or watching the scoreboards all evening here in NY. I'm just a tad jealous of all you guys going to The Dick. Probably the only time those words will ever cross my mind ::)

Predictions:
Calvin 71-62 over UW-LAX
Flying Dutchmen 94-59 over WLC.

Kinda funny there NYKnight ;D  Seriously, enjoyed the humor.  Yet, I think you are right - what people (except those Wisconsiners ::) of course) wouldn't want to see a Hope/Calvin [quad]rematch this weekend?  Besides, whoever wins that one, if it occurs, indeed can say they've bested the other for this year to go on.  Some insightful comments have been made as to either team's realistic chances of getting to the Final Four and winning it all, although I would have to agree with some of those posters who mention that it really comes down to a little luck and "one bounce of the ball" sometimes.    Let's HOPE ;) (sorry Calvin fans!] that one of the MIAA teams goes on - obviously, I HOPE it is HOPE!  Regardless, it is an exciting time of the year.

:o  I guess I just don't see that happening.  Its the tourney and strange things happen especially with a team from across the lake.  I am hoping for a win.  But I think it is going to be close.

In terms of the Calvin game, good luck Knight fans, I will be rooting you on for this night.  Obviously it will be a difficult game for Calvin but they have some familiarity with the gym.  And unlike other of my fellow Hope posters, I have no idea who the Dutchmen would rather see tomorrow night (if they win tonight).  I wouldn't be surprised to hear a second "We owe them one" from the Hope staff and players but I think we are all scared of another chance for Veldhouse...

Sturdevant:
Obviously, you are not a fan of DIII collegiate hockey and it appears also that you are not familiar with that venue.  It has a bigger following than you think.  The other posters are correct - Hope and Calvin college club teams have a pretty substantial following (even better than some high school hockey teams), and the small college hockey association they belong to is quite an operation.  You should check out the Hope and Calvin respective websites for all these aspects.  Club collegiate hockey is much bigger than you might think and in some cases, even at Division I schools, their club hockey teams have players better than their scholarship varsity teams.  In fact, there are even tryouts and cuts for club hockey and many of the schools.  Both Hope and Calvin have made it to the club hockey national tournament as has been mentioned, and Calvin's championship in that is indeed a big accomplishment.  (Same goes for goes for DIII varsity and club lacrosse at the collegiate level with regard to some of the above).

If you don't like small college hockey, we can understand and respect your opinion.  However, please don't come on here and start "bashing" such without doing a little homework on the subject.

To others re: the Calvin football discussion:

As to the reasons behind "no football" at Calvin, this is a deeper issue than most people know, and not really, perhaps, one to discuss on here because of some perceived "PC" issues ;).  There would be alot of positive reasons for Calvin to add football, however, most people are not going to hold their breath to see if/when that might ever happen. ;D

We respect your opinion, but

Well when folks arrive at DeVos tonight some are going to think ol' Sac is crazy.........the ladder is gone. ???

knightmoves.......you've been a busy boy today, don't take me seriously either......I sure as heck don't. 8)

What surprises me about all the big margin picks of Hope  over WLU is that WLU has not lost a game by more than 15 all year.  Blowouts in the  NCAA are rare.  I'd love one but I don't see it.
