I was also informed by a fairly credible source that Dr. Carlson was encouraged to take on a greater role and responsibility than JV head but less than Head Coach....I thought that tidbit was odd.....and apparently, although someone is not allowed on campus due to impending litigation, he/she is still able to run the summer team camps through said college.....I thought that tidbit was odd as well...

Wait, what?

Soon to be announced as "mutual litigation" perhaps.    ;D ;D ;D

Calvin 2014-15 schedule is out.  It is a much better schedule.  Hopefully Calvin can get rid of Finlandia next year.

Great schedule. Nothing wrong with playing Aquinas and Cornerstone when they're the only two non-Division III schools on the schedule.

How great though? and I'm not belittling Calvin's schedule but last year these 9 non-conference opponents combined for a 109-111 record.  That kind of SOS isn't going to be enough to get you in the NCAA tournament via Pool C.

Trine 2014-15 schedule is also out.

Depending on who shows for the Case Invite, this is about 9 non-conference teams that finished in the bottom half of their leagues.

This non-con portion would equate to an SOS of about .505 if calculated the correct way, or about .527 if calculated the way the NCAA has done it the past couple of seasons.

So no, not great, but an improvement from the .490/.485 non-con SOS from this past year.

The big kicker, as always, will be the non-conference record of the MIAA in general. Dickinson got a 'C' last year with a .778 WP / .529 SOS. (But don't get me started on the criteria, they're a mess.)

sac

I think it could have used one less Manchester and one more Carthage or Ripon.

Its by no means a weak schedule.

Just having 23 Division III games is an improvement.

Speaking of Finlandia they replaced Terry Smith with Mike O'Donnell from Negaunee High School, a 2004 Finlandia graduate.

Anderson and Manchester as well. With the new in region classification, I'd like to see them playing NPU, IWU and the UW's

I'm hoping they can get away from having to play Finlandia and Manchester every year to get to the 70%. I don't think Anderson is necessarily a bad game -- though it has been the last couple of years -- but I too am hoping they can expand their Illinois/Wisconsin horizons and mix it up most years.

The Anderson-Manchester-Finlandia slate is getting tiresome at this point. I understand why they had to do it, but going forward I'm hoping for more variety.

North Park, Elmhurst, or North Central would all be good opponents in the Chicagoland area.  Calvin's Chicago area alumni would fill the gyms.

I agree with the Chicagoland games. The hard part about getting teams like IWU and the UW's is the sheer distance matter. Teams don't want to schedule a 4-5 hour road trip for a 4 season contract especially with the possibility of it falling mid-week. Either way, the new in region requirements leave no excuses for Calvin to go without quality in region games.
