Calvin lost the intensity battle to a feisty Wheaton band. It showed most on the boards where the Thunder snatched a ridiculous 15 offensive boards. That ladies and gentlemen explains Calvin's 70-66 loss to Wheaton. That and the mystery of why Jordan Brink logged only 7 first half minutes.

I can't believe that ten years have gone by since that amazing shooting exhibition by Andy Draayer at King Arena (aka The Game Mr. Ypsi Actually Saw In Person).

And that was was arguably the best shooting I ever saw in person, though perhaps surpassed by a game by Oscar Robertson at (fittingly) Robertson Memorial Fieldhouse (Bradley U., Peoria) roughly 50 years ago.  (The shooting by Duncan Robinson in the semis in Salem last April was pretty darned close.  I can't wait for his debut in D1 next year - what a coup if a D3 guy can be a flatout star in arguably the best D1 basketball conference! ;D  And I honestly think he can be.)

The ONLY flaw I saw in his game was that by D1 standards he was downright 'wispy'.  A year with the UM strength coach should do wonders.

Rumor has it Duncan recently broke a 3 point shooting record in practice held by Nik Stauskus.  Whatever that means.

Question:

With 5 minutes left, Brad Visser had 11 shot attempts to Jordan Brink 6.  How does this even happen?

Worse yet, Brad only made 2 of the 11!  He just has to learn not to force shots either from the outside or on drives that just are not there.  When he waits for good shots, he can really score, but he just forces way too many shots.  He may have to sit until he learns better choices.  Great potential--but he has hurt the team in recent games by bad choices.  By contrast, Jordan waited for the good shot and ended up with 19 points and made the majority of his shots!

The question of the knight, no doubt.

That was reported by the Detroit News.  They gave no details; my speculation would be most consecutive 3's without a miss.  And Nik Stauskas, of course , was Big Ten POY and a deadly long-range bomber.  I REALLY think Duncan is gonna be a stud!

Calvin's 2, 6'9" guys, combined for 2 rebounds in 68 minutes of playing time.

Great minds think alike, OK, as I just made the same point on CCIW Chat.

I was impressed by Connor VanderBrug's potential.

Carthage broadcast guy just said next year's MIAA/CCIW Challenge at Hope will be the last. :(

Hope leads Carthage at the half 35-24.  Carthage committed 14 fouls and I would bet at least 8 were committed in the offensive end and not one a charge that I can recall.  Hope is 17-18 from the line, kind of a ragged game.

Also there's really no reason Brad has to fade away on every shot from range.

I know this is a rhetorical question. :)   The answer is so painfully obvious this has to be a rhetorical question. :'(

Hope 73  Carthage 55

Carthage went the last 10:30 with 1 fg...that came with 29 seconds left.  Hope didn't exactly blow the doors off but they did enough to get the win.  Hope's won 4 in row over Carthage by 30-12-22-18 points.

Hope is simply the better team. I thought Wittenbach really gave Hope a lift off the bench the second half.

According to KVS at the post-game Calvin alum reception, Carthage is dropping out of the MIAA/CCIW foursome after next year, and will likely be replaced by North Central.

With Carroll coming back to the league, CCIW teams lose 2 non-conference games next year.  I guess this is where Carthage is getting those 2 from.
