Finlandia has a video stream available for today's 1 PM (1:30 PM?) game vs. Calvin.

http://www.fulions.com/watch/?Live=83

I don't know of any reputable institution that doesn't offer streaming video for their home games.

Nerd alert: Finlandia enters play with a 4-2 record in D3 games. With only two more non-Calvin D3 games remaining, they're guaranteed to have an adjusted winning percentage (from Calvin's perspective) no worse than .500. With the home/away multiplier in play that means the Knights are guaranteed to get a small OWP boost for this game when all is said and done. Not what you expect when you schedule Finlandia. The OOWP portion won't be strong (they've mostly played bad teams), but it looks like it will end up being an overall slight net positive in for Calvin's SOS.

To add to Wiz's comments . . .

1) Key call of the game, with 60 seconds left, the score tied 73 to 73, and Ben Gardner in control of the ball:  He gets knocked off his feet by a Dan Fannelly (as I recall) block, and the call is a travel.  Instead of Gardner likely scoring two free throws, Woo gets the ball and Fannelly scores.  I'm not blaming referees for making judgment calls.  My point is that this game, after 39 minutes, was dead even.

I'm a Scots fan, and that call sure surprised me.  I thought that was a clear block on Fanelly (who had a great game otherwise.) You're right, I thought that was a very pivotal call.

I'm so glad someone from  Wooster agreed with this.  In a tie game, this call changed the advantage.  If you think of tie-breakers in tennis if you hold serve you place pressure on your opponent to hold serve.  That call flipped the advantage to Wooster and forced Hope to play a possession to tie under pressure instead of Wooster.  Gardner most likely makes both of those FT's.  Changed how the final minute of that game plays out.

At any other point in the game that call is forgotten and lost in the wash, but with 1 min to play I thought it was a mistake.

I happened to tune in and saw this play as well. Such a horrible call. It was like the refs just stood there and looked at each other and figured it was too late to call the foul and had to call a travel at that point.

No one in the arena would have argued if they had gotten together and changed the travel call to a foul on Wooster.

Its 7 degrees with near whiteout conditions across the Keewenaw Peninsula expected this afternoon into the overnight with wind gusts to 30mph and windchills in the -20's.

Enjoy your warm and cozy internet connection.

The livestream isn't the clearest video I've ever seen but it seems Calvin made it to the Yoop because it appears they're warming up right now. Given conditions, not sure if they'll make it back before the MIAA opener.

I think the Wooster guy sitting next to the Hope section might have  for sure would have objected and probably demanded Ben and his family be ejected from all of college athletics.

Calvin's starting lineup is intact but I see only 7 players suited on their bench. Wonder who's missing.

Danny Leach is no longer listed on the roster page.

There's a new name on the list, 6-7 Sophomore forward Cameron Denney who apparently played last year at D-II Nova Southeastern.

Michael Wilks is also no longer listed on the Varsity roster.

Roster still has 14 listed so maybe a couple of players are ill and didn't travel.

It appears Finlandia has 2 on the bench, so perhaps they felt sorry for them.

Looks like the Lions have an even shorter bench.  I only see 2.

Calvin leads 41-25 at the break. Things going as expected so far.

Kronemeyer played in the first half, but I didn't notice Visser or Canonie in the game. Huizenga has seemed to play well in his third game back.

82-68 is the final from Finlandia. Kind of a ho-hum second half, but an appropriate win in the end.

http://www.fulions.com/boxscore.aspx?path=mbball&id=1260

According to the box score, the two that were missing were Visser and Canonie.

Brink finished with 20 pts, 9 rebs.
Dykstra recorded a double-double with 17 and 10.

As mentioned, those insert ads are really constant and annoying.  Calvin won 82-68.  I agree that Huizinga looked good for the first time this year after shaking some rust.

Finlandia's stat sheet shows Calvin was led in scoring by Brink with 20, Dykstra 17, and Parks and VanderBrug with 10 each. TJ Huizenga went 4-5 in 17 minutes and newcomer Cameron Denney saw his first floor action as a Knight getting 9 minutes. He didn't score but did grab 4 rebounds.

As a team Calvin shot the ball well overall (55%) but poorly from the arc going 4-16 on threes. Knights won the battle of the boards quite handily (48-33) but don't let that mislead you. I think this year's team is one of the poorest rebounding teams Calvin has had in quite some time because they keep giving up second, third and sometimes fourth shots on an opponent's possession. Finlandia grabbed 15 offensive boards today. Maybe an indication of a ho-hum attitude towards today's game which would mirror mine. I barely watched it. Or maybe this is the natural byproduct of a three guard offense.
