East Kentwood (20-0), Forest Hills Central (20-0) and Muskegon (19-1, only loss to East Kentwood) are heavily favored in their districts this week.  Those 3 teams (the 4th team is the Byron Center district winner) will be at a regional next week at West Ottawa.
I'd say Wyoming HS will be a tough match-up coming out of Byron Center. EKHS will have to be at their best to top Ottawa Hills and get out of districts.

Quote from: Knight2Day on March 08, 2015, 11:03:00 AM... Jordan Brink, one of the best guards to wear a Calvin uni. I'd choose him before Veldhouse and between [Brink] and Knoester, depending on what you were wanting that day, it'd be a tough choice.
This may cause a little friendly debate, but it my mind the 5 all time best guards to wear a Calvin uniform were:  Douma, Phelps, Knoester, Veldhouse, Brink.  I believe Jordan was the most talented.
Roommates Schipper (shooting) and Van Duyn (point) were, while a bit on the chippy side, nice guards in Eddie's early years.

I would say it was a little physical and that MU maybe got some homecooking but the refs had very little to do with it. Calvin couldn't stop the 3 (trademark) and no one really got going for the Knights. Not the way you'd like to see Jordan Brink's career end but I agree, one of the best guards to wear a Calvin uni. I was talking to a friend the other day about his scoring total and the players he was grouped with. I'd choose him before Veldhouse and between he and Knoester, depending on what you were wanting that day, it'd be a tough choice.

Of that quintet Brink is as talented (basketball wise) as any of them though he wasn't the best athlete. That honor goes to either Phelps or Knoester and I'm leaning towards Phelps who was named conference MVP in two sports--basketball and baseball. However, Jordan is unopposed as the finest free throw shooter ever at Calvin, finishing his career 309-341 which checks in at 90.6%. I don't think I'll live long enough to see a better shooter from the stripe than Brink.
As I've opined before, Brink is the best player I've seen in a Calvin uniform.

Back when I was a student there the point guard was, if I remember correctly, Mike Kennedy. I recall him being a pretty decent player. Any else around here remember him? One of the Capel brothers was on that team also.

The best overall player I've seen in a Calvin uniform (any position) is certainly Steve Honderd.

I couldn't agree more.

This brings up an interesting discussion for other teams.  My experience is limited to since the late 80s, but I would be interested to get opinions on the best players for each MIAA program.  Without a ton of deep thought (and being limited to 1988 and beyond), this would be my list...

Calvin - Steve Honderd
Kalamazoo - Jeremy Cole
Hope - Eric Elliott
Alma -  Colon Lewis (know I am missing someone here)
Adrian - Steve Brooks
Albion - Brandon Crawford
Trine - Ian Jackson
Olivet - Mike McClary
Defiance - Chad Kahle

Added Defiance for their time in the league and only considered players who were at Trine (Tri-State) while in the league.

I think Honderd (Steve, that is) was best in MIAA.  Eric Elliott was awesome but I would be curious to hear what Hope fans think of Joel Holstege?  About a tie with Elliott?

For my money the best Hope player was Mr. Floyd Brady.  The guy was a man playing with boys, and was also one of the nicest human beings you could possibly imagine.  Two time MVP of the MIAA 67 & 68.
1968 MIAA 31.9  ppg, and 1967 MIAA 26.1 ppg. Scored a total of 1,170 pts in MIAA games.  648 career MIAA rebounds, and all time rebounding leader.

For Calvin you really need to consider Mark Veenstra.  The only 4 time MIAA men's bball  MVP.  All time leading MIAA scoring champion with 1,233.  615 career rebounds 2nd on all time MIAA list.
His name is all over the MIAA men's basketball statistics list.

Steve Honderd is 4th on the all time MIAA scoring list.

If you go to the MIAA site, and look at the list of MVP's, and various statistical leaders you will notice that many of the leaders played years ago.

Well? Any rumors of who's looking where?

Congratulations to Mr. Brink.  Well-deserved for the Senior that prepped at Mrs. Northb's alma mater.

A bit of early 2015-16 schedule news. Calvin will be a participant in the D3hoops.com classic in Las Vegas. Also participating are Whitworth, Mary Hardin-Baylor, Pacific Lutheran, St. Vincent, Ramapo, UW-Stout and one spot still up for grabs, so Calvin will have two of those teams on their schedule.
