You are correct, I missed your point. Good luck. Witt is a great venue for a game, but have always been unimpressed with their fans, especially when compared with Calvin & Hope. Just as loud, but much more negative based cheers, etc... Cross your fingers that the committee will give the sectional site to Hope. Unfortunately, the seeding is not as much consideration as location. It even may happen that Transylvania gets to host since they knocked off Wooster.

Offended poster from Olivet. My intent was not to rant. I am sorry for that, I have read enough posts of that nature over the years and do not want to copy them. I did defend the reffing for the rest of the game, and I am displeased with you for not quoting that part of my post as well. I agree that refs do not decide games, players and coaches do. But none of that changes that the call made on Caleb was a terrible one. The Knights still lost, the Dutch still won. It just would've been a lot nicer for the game to have been decided (either way) without the benefit of a terrible call in the last 20 seconds.

Reimink annoys me simply because he is on another team. He plays the game in a tough football player-esque manner, and its annoying to watch when you're for the opposing team. I have not watched him all year, and I didnt' check his three-point stats. That statement was made more in fun. Just when I have seen him, he threw up a few long ones that surprised me. That is all.

How's the swimming going?

Why does everyone assume that since Caleb Veldhouse didnt complain about the call that it was a good call. Why doesnt anyone think "wow, he's a cool-headed player"??

From here on out it is the best of the best. The teams that Albion should have beaten in to the tournament are all gone. If you can't convincingly beat a team that gives 4 freshmen serious minutes in your own building, you aren't going to get to Salem.
I don't think any Albion fan contended that we were a Final Four team.  The point was: was Albion one of the top 59 teams in the country?  I think absolutely yes, and I think any distinguished Calvin or Hope poster would agree.  Sitting at home for the tourney doesn't acknowledge that.

You've never been so surprised by a call your reaction was like Veldhouse's?

I've seen plenty of guys take a silly foul and laugh it off because they're so surprised at what the refs decided to call, with most of a game still to play. That would sure be something new to just shrug off a completely wrong call when it takes away a chance to tie with 20 seconds left. Where I stood, he appeared to look like someone who got caught at the wrong time in his reaction. He may have been thinking "man I picked the wrong time to give the push that hard." Of course it could also have been something more like "geez, can't believe Immink managed to convince them to call that." Just the observation I made and it may be worth checking the tape to see his full reaction again just as much as to watch the play happen.

I don't get the other posters' assertions that it was a monumentally rediculous call though. Caleb's arm made contact and Immink went sprawling so something happened and a ref just had to decide if enough force was exchanged, which he was convinced there was. The ref didn't imagine something he really didn't see, he just has to decide if the contact was strong enough. I could certainly see putting the "very iffy" label on this call, but it sure had the appearance of a foul. Only Immink and Veldhouse know truly how hard he hit, but the ref had to make his judgement and he apparently saw enough.

I think I'm the only "everyone" trying to point out that Caleb's reaction said it all. He plays a cool headed game, but I have seen him look shocked and angry about calls that didn't go his way in the past. In this situation where a call swings the game, that's when he decides to make no reaction to question the call at all? I would just be surprised he could avoid letting out any emotion if he felt wronged by that call. Again, just how I observed his reaction was all.

Just what we would expect from some [note key word "some"] whiny Calvin fans - suggesting sour grapes ???.  Come on, as heated as this rivalry is, I've always (and most others do as well), have always rooted for the MIAA representative that advances in the NCAA tourney, and, yes, that includes Calvin.  We were rooting for them last year.  Don't be such a poor sport!:P. ;)

I'm not a poor sport.  Calvin did the best they could playing 5 on 8 and ended up with an amazing season that I could not have predicted in early December.  Now I'm shifting my focus to baseball, Go Tigers.

Playing in Springfield doesn't scare me, Hope won there before and we'll have plenty of fans make that trip.

Playing Wittenberg will be a huge challenge, one that Hope probably hasn't faced this year with two strong big men.

The stats are practically even, with both team allowiing less than 60 per game.  Looks like it should be another grind it out posession kind of game.

Plain and simple for Hope........its all between the ears, be agressive and attack the basket, dictate the game and Hope wins.....everytime.

Become passive, hessitant and reluctant and they lose 2 out of 3 at least.

come on buddy...no heart for Hope??? It's one thing to come on the board for the first time and throw a long post out like that....I actuallly enjoyed your input, and it's always nice to have another poster on this site...even if it's another calvin fan...

But how can you say that a team in THE RIVALRY doesn't play with heart and leadership...I think that heart is what this awesome rivalry is all about.

Please don't come in here and with your first post try and say that EITHER ONE of those teams last night didn't play with HEART... If that was the case...this would just be another game on the schedule but that extra "effort" is what makes it so special YEAR AFTER YEAR AFTER YEAR

one game at a time....GO HOPE!!!

ps. where is transy located?

Playing with heart is an overused sports axiom, and its often given to the underdogs that over perform more so than the expected winner.

I thought both Hope and Calvin played tough gritty basketball last night.  If you want an example of Hope playing with heart you need look no further than the 3 or 4 offensive rebounds in a row that gave Hope the ball in the final 3 minutes.  That was all effort and a "thats MY ball" attitude.

I think its funny some people expected Hope to roll over Calvin...........that almost never happens in this rivalry.  Somehow Hope's not a good team because they couldn't beat the conference champs by a wider margin.  ::)

I saw two of D3's better teams last night.

When you say 3 or 4 offensive rebounds in a row, did you coun't Caleb's rebound and then mugging as one?

Now I haven't gone back and read all of the posts from the game last night. but in the two threads I have read it seems that few people mention the two quick fouls on Phillips, the second being a very poor call.  I also understand that the Velhouse foul did look like a bad call.

My real rant here is against GVW's coaching.  The Dutchmen had been beating Calvin throughout the game.  Suddenly with nine minutes left to play GVW decides to play a "prevent" defense (the only thing a prevent defense does is prevent you from winning).  What was wrong with the original plan?  Certainly Calvin made some runs against Hope, but Hope also countered with their own.  What the heck was Glenn thinking?  Rarely have I seen someone start to milk the clock with that much time left.

I am pleased that Hope won and it was a hard fought victory, but I hope that Glenn learns in the near and distant future not to try that again!

Good job to the fans of both teams.  Not much taunting, aside from the usual.  I am glad that the Hope fans chose to yell "This is our house" rather than "Your seasons over", like in the past.
