I'm done reading posts about officials.  I refuse to believe that they cost Calvin the game as much as I refuse to believe that the officials cost Hope the game at Calvin.

The knights simply did not execute and were defeated by the Dutchmen.

Had the Dutchmen made their freethrows down the stretch Hope would have won by 8 regardless.

-----

Congrats to the knights on a great season and a MIAA regular season crown.

looked at some of the preseaon thoughts on the knights...

FDF
"5 freshman and 3 sophomores on a 14 man roster - definitely a young team. I watched Calvin play something like 9 or 10 games last year and was impressed mostly with their depth.  With graduation and now Hoekstra, Roelofs, and Gerth gone, it may be a tough year for the Knights."

Calvin_Grad
"Without Roelofs, Hoekstra, Gerth, and a proven point guard plus with a young, inexperienced bench I would be surprised if Calvin finished higher than 4th in the league.  They certainly aren't going to challenge for the league title.  I think hosting a first round MIAA tournament game is about as good as I expect.  I can see it being a long year unless some of this freshmen talent develops quickly."

Dark Knight
"Wow, 5 freshmen! 2 new sophomores! The main inside scoring threats are gone. There's still some beef in the middle, but the inside-outside scoring threat doesn't work as well sans the inside part. Looks like it could be a rebuilding year for the knights."

NorthB
"Let's not write Calvin off so fast--remember last year when many prognosticators expected very little from then, and they went to the Final Four!  Tradition, coaching and overall excellence of the program still count for something."

knightmoves

Whatever all of you prognosticators had in your water, I hope you get it tested so you don't make the same mistake again next year. Calvin was picked to finish 4th in the MIAA this year & look what happened. In fact, after VanAndel, I said it was going to be a very long year.
I have followed the Knights forever & this is the best nucleus of young players I have seen coming back in a long time, so obviously I've already gone into "wait until next year" mode.
I'll be like a kid all off season, saying "are we there yet?"

Well, things seem pretty tense around here so I think we need a little humor Hope and Calvin fans can all appreciate

Scarily similar stats - which means we should be in for a great game.

hope1

tiger fan i will be there  friday we are leaving holland at 11.00
i love hope  sports all of them are really great to watch

TigerFan_1973

I agree that this will be a great game.

Those attendance figures are amazing.  I am surprised that Wittenberg's average attendance is not higher.  How big is the DeVos Building?

I saw some pictures on Hope's web site and it looks like a great facility.

Do Hope students have to promise to be Amway distributors?

Yes, and pretty much anybody who works or plays in a building in West Michigan  ;D

Is it possible to set up another chat topic for this game so that we don't have to post in both forums?

I'm thinking we could all meet each other at halftime of the first game.    Would that work for people coming down?  I know it's a long way because I used to live in Kalamzaoo.  I used to figure six hours getting to Springfield from there with the family.  You guys will probably make it a lot faster.

I went to a game at Calvin once but have never been to Hope.  It's in Holland, which is by Grand Rapids.  Is that right.

I've always gone for both games when I have gone.  It's important to get a good seat and a few hot dogs under your belt before the big game starts.

And also....the MIAA gets NO RESPECT from the NCAA

Well thats no totally true,  Albion hosted last year and the NCAA President is an Albion grad.  I think they're aware of the MIAA in Indianapolis. ;)

SAC, you're thinking of Ced Dempsey who led the NCAA up until 2003. Myles Brand is not an Albion grad, rather got his degree from RPI. That being said, if the NCAA is going to award a sectional to Albion and Kresge, than you know they're aren't exactly worried about attendance.
There's only two things I hate in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures and the Dutch.

From the Wittenberg website.........ooops ;D

The Tigers, North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament champions for a second straight year, are ranked third in the nation by d3hoops.com with a 27-3 overall record. Hope, the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association regular season and tournament champions, are ranked second nationally with a 28-2 overall record.
Wow, history got re-written quick.  I'm sure someone from Hope will write Witt and tell them they properly need to credit a 13-1 Calvin season!   ;D

I sent an email to Witt's SID.  I'm sure he will take care of it.

Thanks.  Too early to be giving away regular-season titles.   ;D  I envy Hope fans.  That trip to Springfield was always a lot of fun.  Plus for a while there Witt was the coaching springboard from D3 to D1.  It was cool to play a Larry Hunter team and then see him on the D1 sidelines a year or two later.  Last I hear he was at NC State.  The guys after Larry made the jump too if I recall.  Anyhow good memories for me of Springfield and the Witt campus.

flash96

I believe in '96 the road went through Witt.  That was a sectional sitek, in addition to those Tiger fan listed.

Just sad that Hope doesn't get to showcase the new fieldhouse for a sectional game.  No respect from the NCAA that is certain!

Following a great suggestion by TigerFan_1973, I created a new topic in the GL Region for discussing the upcoming games in Springfield.  Saves us from having to post in multiple places.
