Is this the DVS that everyone has been talking about?  Very impressive stats!

Gary, you should think about telling GVW that your son needs more minutes. ;)

its so obvious, looking at these stats, that he was definately a DI player. wonder why he ever left??

Most of the posters on this site were actually there in person. Great game, hard fought, with a controversial call at the end. Oh yeah, and even a little blood. What more could you ask for in the greatest small college basketball rivalry in the country?
You need to go back a few pages & there are lots of comments if you want to get a flavor for the game.

I personally think it should be called the greatest rivalry in college sports.  ESPN said it was what 8th?  i have been to multiple Illinois/Missouri games that ESPN ranked above Hope/Calvin and they don't compare at all to THE Rivalry.

My dad always says that i went to a school with the right colors and the wrong name (my parents went to U of Illinois).

i believe it was ranked 4th, if i remember correctly.

From the angle of the Hope camera, it looked even worse than I remembered -- Greg went flying at an angle that would be difficult to "impersonate" in a flop.  (Haven't asked him about it directly though -- he could deserve an Oscar, i don't know.)

Oh, OK.  I'm sure he'll give you an honest answer.... ;D

Um, actually he would give me an honest answer.  I, of course, won't tell anyone what that answer is... ;)  And that's why he can tell me. ;D

No fair.  You're depriving the board controversy.

Did anyone else catch GVW on WOOD TV8 Sports Overtime last night? They started by showing highlights of all theh Calvin-Hope games this year and then interviews GVW. As a Calvin fan, I don't GVW personally, but he really comes off as a great guy on TV. I know some people put on a show for stuff like this, but he seemed pretty earnest. He started by talking about how great it is to be at Hope and that it was his calling. It was pretty neat. They asked him about how much a NC would mean. He said the goal is always to win, but it's more about those guys coming back in twenty year being a husband or father and you know. It was a good answer. They showed highlights about half of the time he was talking. Two things from those, Stephen Cramer's dunk against Albion ya WOW! The other was Immink reverse Sat. night. Seriously, I was on the other end of the gym when it happean and their camera angle made it look Jordanesche. It was pretty amazing!
"I started to look around at the fans and the team and I was sitting in the back, and I looked around and everybody was having a good time and that day, it truly made me realize what Michigan was about. It took me down, it humbled me. It taught me how to be a Michigan man instead of Jason Avant."

QuoteIt wasn't really discussed, but I did find it interesting that GVW called it a charge, vs. what I saw and assumed was a push-off.  But then again, after seeing today's tape, I could understand the call being a charge.

Veldhouse was moving away from the hoop while pivoting to set up the offense. Immink was on the basket side. It couldn't have been a charge. It had to be a push off. I have heard for Calvin people, who have watched the tape, that there was very little contact, if any. And that it appeared as if Immink's momentum made him fall. I' not stating anything as a fact here, I haven't seen the tape with my own eyes yet. I just thought it is interesting how two sides see the same play, but yet see two completly different things.

If you think stats make or break players, I dare you to argue Carlson's value to Hope according to his statistics.

DVS is compable of more. I looks like he is just trying to fit in out there. His stats will be fine next year. I could say the same thing about Reimink as you could Carlson, stats are more of a bonus for players like that. Kyle Snoeyink added so much to Calvin's team last year without great numbers. You need guys like that to win championships.

Rasta,

Don't you find it rather odd that both Calvin and Hope took Cornerstone off their schedule the same year. Yes, they play them at the VA tourney, but no longer in regular season games. Yet they still schedule Grace Bible College. You couldl argue that KVS and GVW are ducking them, but Hope and Calvin tend to play some of the tougher schedules in the country. Seems rather odd to me.

It mostly has to do with the NCAA tightening their reigns and weighing regional games against D3 opponents so heavily.

you make a good point. you can also look at a player like Meckes. offensive stats arent the greatest, but his defense is always phenomenal. holding Andy Phillips in single digits two, maybe three times this season. even his blocked shots numbers dont even indicate what he does.....altering shots, intimidating players, clogging the lane etc. another plus.....momentum shifting dunks

Shareef, GVW is every bit the person you saw on tv in real life.  Absolutely.  Glad you got to see that side of him.

As to the Cramer and Immink moves, what can I say?  I'm still shaking my head over the amazingness of those! :o

I don't think Hope played Grace Bible this year.

If Hope is getting only 500 tickets, I hope I will be able to get some.  Any of the Dutch faithful have some insight into when you might get to the Devos on Wednesday?

sac

Hope did not play Grace Bible this year, but did play Andrews.  In my opinion much worse
