War Memorial Coliseum for basketball, a Madants game I think.  In the upper right rafters you can see the curtain they pull down for games at that end when IPFW plays there.  As a hockey venue its fantastic, its a lot more like Van Andel Arena for basketball.

Will be interesting to see if attendance is up or down.  Locale wise much closer for the Midwest schools obviously, airport connections probably worse with lack of direct flights from anywhere but Atlanta and Chicago, less of a touristy destination than Salem (I think), not on the way or way back for Spring breakers really.

D2 is also playing its championships at the the other end of Indiana in Evansville those same years.

Michael Thomas is leaving his assistants position at Albion.  Albion has posted the job opening.

Edit.
***just wanted to add this was a family decision and not a basketball one.   I'm sure Coach May would prefer Michael on his bench next Winter.

Trine MBB schedule is up for 2017-18

http://www.trinethunder.com/sports/mbkb/2017-18/schedule

Great Lakes Christian and Illinois Tech still on their schedule...not good for the SOS.  Wish we would play more Indiana DIII schools: Hanover, Rose Hulman, DePauw, Wabash, Franklin...any of those would be better.

3 of first 4 on road to start MIAA in hopes MTI Center is ready to go after the 1st of the year.  I don't know how they'll get it done in time...foundation is going in right now.

edit:  8 non-conference games at home...easily the most I've ever remembered.

sac

Overall that should end up being a pretty good schedule the only problem is going to be all the home games and the "penalty" multiplier.

Illinois Tech should be good to even great for the SOS, they were 13-5 against D3 last year with a pretty young squad.  Most used starting five 1 Sr, 3 So 1 Fr .

GLC doesn't count, except for those who think the 1 missed D3 game matters.

Sorry, TUAngola, but you're wrong about Illinois Tech. As sac said, IIT was good last year and will likely be even better next year. Anthony Mosley might end up being the best guard your team sees this side of Dante Hawkins. And 6'7, 225 Max Hisatake could be poised for a breakout season in 2017-18. He has all of the tools to be a stellar D3 big man.

The Scarlet Hawks will post a very good record next season, against both D3 and non-D3 competition, just as they did in 2016-17. Why you would think that Franklin, which has floundered over the past three campaigns and went 4-21 last season, or DePauw, which is coming off of an 8-17 season and will lose its best player by far (20 ppg scorer Luke Lattner) to graduation, would be better schedule choices than IIT is beyond me.

Sorry, my bad about Illinois Tech.  When we played them a few years ago they were really awful.  I haven't followed Illinois Tech since then, their program must have improved tremendously.  So it's good to hear we will have a strong team coming to Angola this year.  Thanks for correcting me.

Gregory Sager

Their head coach, former CCIW player and assistant coach Todd Kelly, really gets after it on the recruiting trail. He has a good understanding of what kind of a school Illinois Tech is and how to sell it to recruits. I know that IIT sports have not been good in the past, but the school is a highly-regarded STEM institution located just a ten-minute el ride from the Loop. (There's a Green Line el station right on campus.) With the right salesman coach making the pitch, there's no reason why IIT can't eventually be as successful in men's basketball as MIT or Rose-Hulman, provided that the Scarlet Hawks can get into a conference.

SLIAC😜😄😉
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

Gregory Sager

IIT would fit in the SLIAC, since the Scarlet Hawks don't have a football program. But that's a long haul for travel purposes; not Spaulding-style long haul, but still pretty bad:

Eureka2 hr, 15 min
MacMurray3 hr, 35 min
Blackburn3 hr, 45 min
Greenville3 hr, 50 min
Iowa Wesleyan4 hr, 10 min
Spaulding4 hr, 30 min
Webster4 hr, 35 min
Fontbonne4 hr, 40 min
Principia4 hr, 45 min
Westminster6 hr

That's an awful lot of bus time. The Scarlet Hawks would be better served by getting into the NACC.

My apologies to the MIAA folks for this non-MIAA digression. To make up for it, let me ask you all a general question: Given the proximity of the MIAA fan base to Fort Wayne, how many of you would consider going to the Final Four once it's relocated there, even if your preferred team does not get that far?

Greg, I'm thrilled with the move to Fort Wayne and plan to attend the Final Four whenever possible.

I will certainly consider it, if I'm still in the Lansing area in 2 years its only a slightly over 2 hour trip for me.

I would have loved going to Salem as a neutral but the travel time and cost involved was always prohibitive, I can do Ft. Wayne without an overnight.
