We've had this problem before.

It is Calvin's turn to host in the four year cycle of hosting.   I shrug my shoulders.

I can't remember the reason now but the schedule got flipped the 2013-14 season when it was Aquinas' turn to host. Going from dim memory, the change was requested by Aquinas for some conflict they had at their school (possibly construction?) and Calvin hosted that year with Aquinas taking Calvin's hosting spot the following season. With Aquinas taking back hosting duties for 2017-18, the schools are back in their previous rotation and Calvin should be host in 2018-19. If they're not, this post will be deleted next year as the Secretary will disavow any knowledge of my actions.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Previous Years Hosts

2016 - Hope
2015 - Cornerstone
2014 - Aquinas
2013 - Calvin
2012 - Hope
2011 - Cornerstone
2010 - Aquinas
2009 - Calvin
2008 - Hope
2007 - Cornerstone

Calvin might have asked for a pass this year as they will host the NCAA women's volleyball championships the weekend before.  They could support both since they are separate weekends, but might not have wanted to ask everyone who just went through a large event to come back the next weekend for another.

I get what you are saying, but I'm not sure the GR Hall of Fame basketball tournament qualifies as a "large event" on par with hosting the women's volleyball national championships.  The teams (and how far they are coming from), the fans attending, and the staff required to run the event are 2 totally different things.

This is what I've been able to piece together so far of Hope's schedule from other teams schedules...

17-Nov      @ Marietta                           (Great Lakes Invitational)
18-Nov      St. John Fisher @ Marietta   (Great Lakes Invitational)
24-Nov      Cornerstone or Aquinas @ Aquinas   (GR Hall of Fame)
25-Nov      Cornerstone or Aquinas @ Aquinas   (GR Hall of Fame)
1 or 2-Dec        OPEN (maybe UWRF if last year was the front end of a home/away deal)
8-Dec        @ UW Platteville
9-Dec        @ UW Stevens Point
22-Dec?     Baldwin Wallace or St. Vincent       (RDV Sportsplex, Orlando)
23-Dec?     Baldwin Wallace or St. Vincent       (RDV Sportsplex, Orlando)
29-Dec      Mt. Union          (Russ DeVette)
30-Dec      John Carroll       (Russ DeVette)
3-Jan        Trine
6-Jan        @ Kzoo
10-Jan      Calvin
13-Jan      @ Adrian
17-Jan      Alma
20-Jan      @ Olivet
24-Jan      @ Albion
27-Jan      @ Trine
31-Jan      Kzoo
3-Feb        @ Calvin
7-Feb        Adrian
10-Feb      @ Alma
14-Feb      Olivet
17-Feb      Albion

Unless you have gotten official dates for Orlando I seriously doubt those dates (as you do with the ?) Typically when they play down there it's Tue-Wed or Wed-Thu. They also tend to not get too close to the holiday so the teams have time to travel and be home for Christmas.  If I had to guess I would say they are on Dec 19 & 20.

Yeah, no clue. I'll change it to 19 and 20 but leave the ?... Pretty daunting schedule for a young team.

Sorry I should have been more clear.  The volleyball hosting is a large event with lots of work.  I was thinking that Calvin did not want to ask anyone who worked long and hard for that, to have to work the next weekend as well.

bballfan13 is correct in his thinking regarding the Hall of Fame Tourney/NCAA Volleyball Nationals back-to-back weekends. Calvin asked for a restructuring of the tournament hosting schedule because of volleyball nationals and was granted that request. Hope that clears up the questions.

This makes a lot more sense. Thanks jfebus for clarifying!

On a personal preference note, I think it makes more sense to alternate between the MIAA and NAIA schools so I don't mind the change.

Jeff - I am surprised you are allowed to use "hope" in a sentence. Are you allowed to say "Hope that clears up the questions?"

Well, it'd be hard for Jeff to use the Dutch cognate for "hope", hoop, as a substitute without leading to a whole lotta confusion. ;)

Are you sure that's a reformed concept?  Can anything be redeemed? Predestination, single, or the more honest double, says otherwise.
