I'm not quite sure what to think of the gray. I mean, I don't not like it... Maybe the overall look needs some blue?

As a more general statement, I really don't like the cut of Nike's basketball uniforms that have been prevalent the last couple years. Good news for Hope is the things that really bother me (some look too thin over the shoulder, weird narrow backs) aren't evident in the photos.

(Agree sac, Calvin should go away from the black unis)

Not sure we want to be fashion police on school colors, nor add several pages of non-basketball debate to this board, but since others have raised it, I'll throw in my two cents. Making additions to standard school colors seems to have become the rage the last twenty years (possibly a byproduct of school diversity programs? :-\). Awhile back, almcguire and I commented on WMU's school colors, which officially are brown and gold (they're even part of the school fight song) and the fact that black, white and grey now appear on a lot of Bronco clothing, much to the consternation of the traditionalists who have long supported the school. What Calvin and Hope are doing is part of what is known as "brand overhaul" with (supposedly) complementary colors added to the traditional look in an attempt to provide a vibrant, strong, and modern appeal, while also recognizing the history and tradition of the school. Whether it does or not, is largely in the eye of the beholder. De gustibus non est disputandum.

I think Kzoo's in year 3 or 4 of home greys, I don't hate them either (or Hope's) but its just not Kzoo, or Hope.   And for Hope to do it after Kzoo has already established grey as a home court jersey is kind of lame...ish.     :-\

They def. need blue in them

More importantly the guy who once proclaimed that he never wore a coat coaching is doing this

Yeah, that is kind of lame given that K College already adopted it. I must say I think I do kind of like this look though. But let me first show the photos to that inestimable fine arts major, Mrs. Oldknight, and she can tell me whether I like. ::)

Right, like Kzoo started this trend.  Any of you been watching any D1 ball the last 5-6 years?

I do not like black uniforms for Calvin. Nor gray for Hope. I'm a millennial and I still don't get the appeal of either.

Black is an acceptable Calvin uniform color as evidenced by the schools brand guidelines.  Colors are not exclusely limited to maroon and gold.  https://calvin.edu/offices-services/communications-marketing/calvin-brand/visual-guidelines/

Don't know, but I'm sure he got paid money to do it. If my father read those words he would say "niet zo gereformeerd if you ask me."

This was crafted, almost certainly, by the college's "brand steward," who was not an English major, but an art/design sort. In the ivory tower at many colleges these days, people are inhaling their own fumes -- and getting giddy. ::) :o

Its like I'm reading ESPN's Uni Watch. Nice pictures, hyperlinks, and thoughts! Well done everyone!

Speaking of uniforms... it appears that the new 3-man decided to switch out the tie-dye for an old Hope Hoops jersey... Hoping the 20 year old 3 man jersey hasn't made its last run... BUT if the new 3-man can bring some needed enthusiasm to the job, I could care less what he wears... unless its a speedo...

Marketing and branding people, for whom BS is the stock-in-trade.

I can't say I care for the gray, but as long as they don't don fatigues I can endure almost anything.
