will I set the record for most smites in 24 hours?

You have to go some to beat me.  Although turning on GVW midway through the second half maybe frowned upon by your Hope brothers.

Al, what do you do to get smitted?  You just went from -11 to -13 for saying basically that he may get smitted from his fellow fans.  How is that worth minus 2 karma?  Are some people just in a routine with you?  Seriously, inquiring minds want to know? ???

You have to ask your brothers in the orange and blue.  Negative karma from some people is a badge of honor.

Still hard to believe the MIAA's  mens season is over.  I really thouhgt Hope would fare better against Witt.  For a team that supposedly was stacked with all this talent we didn't get to see much utilization of that talent.  Oh well, hope the kids that stayed back in Holland to go to the dance had fun.

GVW coaches for two more seasons....does not get past the sweet 16...Chad Carlson returns to take over the varsity job....Matt Neil quits....Hope's program continues to recruit good players but struggles to fulfill potential.

I think your speculation is correct regarding Chad Carlson being the next coach
at Hope.

It's a toss up between him and Neil. Either way, I wouldn't be dissatisfied. Also, I don't think Glen is done just yet. You have no idea how ridiculously healthy that man is. He will probably outlive some of the current students.

I think I know why Hope lost.  Their shorts were too long.

Nice season, though, Hope.  Only 3 losses in this long season is pretty good, and a sweet 16 aint bad either.

No... No...

It was the REFS... I'm sure it had to be the refs! They blew this game for Hope! I'm sure of it!  ;) ;D
(No one said it yet...)  ;D

Witt 56 Hope 49

In a nutshell this was both of Hope's previous losses rolled up into one big ball.  Earlier this week I thought this would be a Hope/Albion type duke it out kind of ballgame......and boy was it.  Unfortunately Hope played exactly how they did at Albion in the first half sans the brilliant Albion shooting, no inside game and missing everything from the outside and it wasn't just one guy.

The remarkable thing was that Hope played so well on defense they were still in touch at the half, only down 12.  4 witt 3's to 1 Hope 3 and that was the only difference.  Call it nerves, tightness, whatever............I'll credit Witt for taking the easy stuff away, they do play good defense.

At halftime I told a number of people all Hope had to do was start making shots........in the first 5, Cramer has two shots go down and out, a potential 5 points right there and the rally would have started sooner.  It was in fact Derek VanSolkema who's 10 points in 4 minutes sparked Hope and gave them a shot.  Hope had Witt flustergated on offense and really negated the inside play of Borchers and Russ although they both had great moments.  Their dominance was on the boards.

The last 5 minutes was a virtual carbon copy of the the Calvin loss........no baskets in the last 5 minutes.  Same offense with little plan on where the ball needed to go......frustrating.  Even with that though Hope had a real shot to steal it in the end, and the way it ended just kind of typified the kind of night it was.

I think the stats say it all, points in the paint and rebounding, the rebounding numbers were the frustrating ones because of how many times Witt just seemed to want the ball more.  Even still Hope's right there to win the game.

I really can't say enough about the kind of defense Hope played, they were awesome,  Witt couldn't do anything for LONG stretches of the game, Hope just couldn't capitalize and that hole they dug was just too deep.

I like many left they gym feeling the better team did not win this one, but I'll congratulate Witt for a fine game.  They did the little things you need to do to win close games.

Congrats to Hope on a fine season.  To lose to a team like Wittenberg is nothing to hang your head about.  I would have loved to have seen the Dutchmen make a longer tournament run, as I'm sure many Hope fans would say, but it was a great season nonetheless.

Random thoughts

-----I defy anyone to find a boxscore with fewer shot attempts by 2 teams, remarkable defense, many empty posessions, 86 totatl shots.

-----1-10 from 3 in the first half, that about sums it up.

-----Transy beat Miss Coll........two very ordinary looking teams, I think Kzoo could beat them both, maybe thats stretching it but they underwhelmed me.  Transy loves the 3 ball and if they get smokin hot they could take down Witt like they did Woo.  But Russ and Borchers should eat them alive.  Neither Transy or Miss Coll play a shadow of the defense Hope and Wittenberg do.  Not even close.

-----By far the hottest gym I've ever been in, the Witt big fellas were really dragging at the end, but they really sucked it up and made some great effort plays,  Borchers and Russ and great players but Brady is their MVP, without him Witt isn't this far in the tournament.  We could have held this sectional in Mississippi and it likely would have been COOLER!...........oh and some good seats were available.

-----Excellent turnout from the Transy crowd, you'd think one of them would have found this site by now. ???  The Witt crowd was there as well and are really good at banging their feet on the wooden floor boards but thats about it.

-----Artie Taylor, man oh man........you had to see the suit to believe it ;D....the shoes alone were priceless. 8)

-----FDF, GoHope, Diehardfan can attest to this but I told them WAY back in Novemeber that I'd only be disappointed if Hope lost more than 3 games.   Nothing to be disappointed about, things just have to go so right to make it to the final four.

Hey if your ever in Jackson County be sure to say hello to my new friend Sgt Long of the Jackson County Sherriff's department.  He was nice enough to write down for me the merits driving 55 in a 55 mph zone, and even told me how I could learn more about this phenomenon with special hearings set aside just for me in Jackson County. ;D

What a nice gentleman. ;D
