How about some details here?  Details are what make the on-the-scene report special.

DCHN:  You are right.  In 00 when Calvin won a banner it was nice that we beat Hope twice, and a relief we didn't have to play them a 3rd time.  However, no Calvin fans I know would have taken any solice in knowing we beat Hope, but couldn't/didn't win when we had too against better competition.  I really thought, and made the comment at the time, that Hope's loss to Calvin should have provided all the incentive necessary to let GVW's players know they could be beaten not only by a better team, but possibly by a lesser team.  The "Rivalry" is really nice for both our schools, but sometimes it may get in the way of allowing teams to focus on what is really important, and that is winning it all.  To heck with the local bragging rights.

Bottom line Hope came out flat

Flat?  They were concave in the first half.  17 points from that offense is unimaginable.

If Hope plays at the level in which they have been playing at durring the MIAA tourny they win this game 8 out of 10 times.  If this game is at the DeVos they win it 9of10 times.
I get tired of posters that denigrate the team that won by comments such as these. If the queen had different plumbing she would be king is what I always have heard. I guess they shouldn't even play the game since Hope would when it 85% of the time

QUICK QUIZ

Which of the following doesn't belong and why?

A.  Calvin College

B.  Hope College

C.  The Christian Reformed Church

The Answer:  B, because unlike the other 2, they don't have a Banner  ;D

BWPM.  Your statement is worth everyone saving, and pondering each time their team loses.  There is no dishonor when your team loses to a better team, and if they (your team) didn't play their best game (shame on them) it doesn't mean automatically if they had they would have won.   Everyone seems to agree Hope didn't play their best game, and I am sure the Witt posters feel the same.  Pat,  or someone in one of the rooms, mentioned they thought it was Hope's tournament to lose, and that simply is what happened.  Last night it seemed no one on the floor for Hope took control of the game into their own hands, and the same thing happened when Caleb hit a shot with 1.7 to play.  Why didn't a Cramer step up and play like a BC, and dominate?  DVS makes 10 points in 4 minutes, and then goes cold, or did Witt's coaches change the game plan?

Almc... I'm not quite sure what to make of you. So much comical genius wasted in an obvious effort to make people mad.

Grats to the Dutchmen on a superb season. I'll wave a sad goodbye to our seniors, you will all be missed.

Grats go out to the Tigers as well. If you can hold Voisin, Reimink, Richardson, Wolfe and Carlson to a combined 2 points, you deserve to win I suppose.

On a slightly different (but still orange and blue) note, hopefully this puts into perspective how good our womens team is. I know that the folks that read this board are most likely Flying Dutch fans as well, but I can't tell you how many bball fans I've talked to that don't even know we HAVE a womens team. Let's support our Dutch!

Good luck, ladies  ;D

Last night I went down -3 karma points for some very benign observations.  This occurred after the Hope fans that were at the game came on here and posted.  If I'm going to get negative karma,  I am going to take my shots.  ( I will shoot better than
26% also)

Earth to almcgquirejr, this is not a good time to tease, or to say anything at all unless it's with great care.

Sorry, about the lose Hope. Sounds very much like the game most expected. My question for those at the game is do you think that Calvin would have matched up with Witt. better than Hope. Obviously, as evidence of Hope winning three out of four against the Knights they are probably the better team. It just seems to me like Calvin matches up better against teams that have a strong interior presence because of their depth in the post. Hope really has one reliable big man in Voison and seemed to have more trouble against teams like Albion. I was also wondering if how Hope matched up with their bigs. Did they put VanderHeide on of the monsters or keep him on Brady. None of this is said in offense to Phillips. I think he is more of a natural three and therefor don't consider him one of the big men.
"I started to look around at the fans and the team and I was sitting in the back, and I looked around and everybody was having a good time and that day, it truly made me realize what Michigan was about. It took me down, it humbled me. It taught me how to be a Michigan man instead of Jason Avant."

I think the Hope fans on this board can take a little ribbing.  Maybe AlMjr could get more respect if he did his nudging in the context of more even-handed comments at other times.  One should never be mean-spirited, but a good nudge, a chant from the Dew Crew or other good-natured ribbing makes the next time their team beats his team all that much more fun.  What is your team, anyway, AL?  Were they still playing last night?

My team this year can be called MIAA champions.  Last night I must confess I was a Witt fan.  Unless a Hope win helps Calvin, I find it difficult to cheer for them.
I do appreciate the fact you can some ribbing because that is part of the rivalry.
