Olivet:  Naffzinger 26, Edmond 25

The carrier pigeons arrived today with updated news on this game.  The 26 point scorer is "unknown" but it was not Naffzinger.   A correct boxscore may be difficult to acquire from LSSU for awhile.

So Hope will also be playing an exhibition versus LSSU on November 8 at Alma (not sure about the start time yet).  Guessing it's at Alma to reduce driving time for either team.  Different point in the pre-season, but I'm sure some comparisons will be made.

Here is the Olivet write up. https://mobile.twitter.com/oc_mbasketball/status/1057433786894434306

Coach might have thrown a bit of shade with this one :)

Spencer had 4 points, 4 boards and an assist. When I see him on campus I give him full credit for the 26 points 😂

Adrian posts their roster and finally we have them all:

They have more kids from Indiana than Michigan on varsity.

boxscore:  https://wmubroncos.com/boxscore.aspx?id=8289&path=mbball

Kzoo looks to have shot the ball pretty well and were within 10 at halftime but double digits plus most of the half.  It was not as close the 2nd.  Minutes very spread out.  Starting 5 for Kzoo was Blyly, Ollie, Vincent, Humes, Hamann  6-3, 6-3, 6-3, 6-5, 6-6

Poll:

Anyone who tuned into Hoopsville Sunday (or On Demand) would have heard a hint at this ... I got wind of the results which somewhat surprised me.

Trine can return its entire roster and in a sane world should get some serious looks as pre-season favorite ......

A few people I talked to in the conference were pretty surprised by the Trine pick. We shall see what happens.

I too am surprised at the pre-season poll.  I would have had Trine at 3 behind Hope and Olivet.  Yes we do return all our starters from the 4th place team last year; all conference guys in Copeland and Smith, plus Hunter, Johnson, and Winters (when football season is over).  Bench guys, Clune, Dishop and Corcoran all return.  Also returning to the roster this year is senior Ellis Cummings who will strengthen the inside rotation with his defensive abilities.  A couple of transfer guards, Jake Daniels and Maurice Scott should also see some time.  Not sure how many of the freshman will contribute, will get a first look next Monday when we host Illinois Tech, which is a very good team with their All American guard Anthony Mosley.  Trine appears to be a deeper team this year than Coach Miller has had in the past, but even at that he rarely plays more than an 8 man rotation, especially once conference play starts.

What a sane world we live in these days!  ;) :P

It's also interesting to note that Hope was one vote shy of #25 on the Preseason top 25 and then failed to win its conference preseason poll. Neither Olivet nor Trine received any votes in the preseason poll.

I'm curious as to what others think, are their not enough voters in the d3hoops poll or do the 25 people just not have the time to look at the rosters before they vote? Or is it that rosters weren't available at the time of the poll?

I think Sac to be on the panel if they expand from 25 but that's just me...

My observation over a number of years is that the national polls at the beginning of the year appear to reflect a great deal more of the final results in the previous year than the teams now starting the year.
