Was it just me and my computer, or was the audio on Alma's game terrible today? Alma did a nice job protecting home court today.

Was fine in the first half when I watched.  Something went South around halftime, I ended up muting it.

For me it was pretty much the whole game. That being said, Alma normally puts on a very good production, which is why I didn't want to mute it.

Olivet didn't look that good in the first half but the score 50-33 was probably helped along by the fact that Albion's 56% from the floor is eclipsed by its 57% from behind the arc. Colin Jones hasn't been in the game since around the 14 minute mark. Olivet started its '517' lineup: Edmond, McAdoo, Roberts, Jones and Manuel.

Olivet lost 74-71 to Albion tonight. Olivet played an amazing 2nd half led by great defense by Colin Jones. He took 4 charges and also had at least one steal. Albion actually started passing to the edges instead of finishing drives with Jones down low. Tracy played an inspired second half scoring some key shots but missing the game tying 3 from 'Steph range'. I'd honestly say Jones was Olivet's MVP tonight. As much as this loss killed me it was a great half to watch.

Trine 81  Hope 67

Really good game for most of it down in Angola.  Hope had one tough 9 min stretch right at the end of the first half and into the 2nd half where they really struggled with just 6 points.  Trine went on a 28-6 run and for the most part that was all she wrote.  Hope made a nice flurry to kinda get back into it and into single digits but the Thunder made some clutch shots under some pressure late in the game.  But Hope never really got this one close enough to make Trine sweat much.

Beckman had a really tough night shooting to begin with compounded by a few gravity defying rim outs.  Langston Johnson was terrific.

Hope:  Lewis 24  Beckman 13

Trine:  Johnson 28, Copeland 16, Winters 10, Smith 10

Really good game for most of it ... Hope had one tough 9 min stretch ... where they really struggled... Hope made a nice flurry to kinda get back into it... Beckman (or Lewis/Preston) had a really tough night shooting to begin with compounded by a few gravity defying rim outs....

Hope seems to be able to play with anyone when Jason, Riley, and Preston are making their shots. But since there's really no one outside of Teddy and Dennis to pick up the slack if one of them has an off night, this description sounds oh too familiar. I'm fairly certain it's not the last time we will see a recap that looks this way either.
Let's go Dutchmen!

Calvin enjoyed an encouraging start to the league season with its win over Adrian.  It was really of case of excellent teamwork with more than double the number of assists that Adrian ended having.  Most the early baskets were layups.  Calvin also more than doubled the number of rebounds that Adrian had, particularly on the offensive boards, and the result was far more opportunities to score.  Carson Meulenberg was so dominant that he ended with 16 boards and seemed to be coming up with every rebound for a stretch.  Defense was solid.  The only downside was the three point shooting really weak--only 2 out of 18 until Shymanski finally hit 2 toward the end of the game.  Even though the shots taken were wide open, it seemed as if shooters who just were not hitting (8 long misses in a row?) would have been better off passing up on the shot.  Mid distance shots were much more successful, and the team avoided the long scoring droughts that have been a problem this year.  De Vries continues to find ways to score even though tightly guarded, primarily with drive shots.

Hope really struggled at Trine last night down at one point 55-35. Riley Lewis hit a few meaningless threes in the second half to make it look a little closer. Trine made some excellent adjustments at half and cruised to an easy win. Same story with Trine's bigger guards playing right through and right over Hope's smaller guards. Hope's bench was non-existent again and it doesn't look like any of the bench players have confidence on offense. Teddy Ray's shooting slump continued. Formula to beat Hope is clear for the MIAA coaches - slow down one of the big three (Beckman/Lewis/Preston) results in a Hope loss. Slow down two and it's an easy win. Trine played physical and trapped Beckman & Preston and dared others to beat them. Coach Mitchell inherited a ton of talent and no longer has Hawkins & Blackledge & Benson to bail Hope out since the MIAA teams talent now seems to be quite equal with many of the teams. Interesting year ahead in the MIAA. Trine looks very good.

The MIAA should be ashamed of the way their officials called the end of the Calvin vs Alma game. Harvey hits two free throws to with 0.3 seconds left to give Alma the 1 point win. Alma took a three with 1 second left. The shot missed, but the official awarded Alma to free throws for a foul on the rebound at the buzzer. After watching the replay several times on the live stream, there was minimal contact, certainly nothing more than any other rebound throughout the game. Calvin got robbed. Congrats to Alma on a hard fought win and congrats to Harvey for sinking two clutch free throws. I would love to know what other people thought about the last play.

After watching the play a few more times on the livestream, I don't think Harvey's tip would have counted as it came after the buzzer. Really a shame for Calvin.

So today was fun

Albion 76 Adrian 66
Olivet 81 Trine 70  ...made it look sort of easy
Hope 87 Kzoo 65  ....Hope trailed by 22 at one point
Alma 67 Calvin 66   ....2 ft's with .3 seconds win after most everyone thought Calvin had won, except for anyone who saw the push (body check really) on the rebound and the officials hand in the air.

Big game next Wed night :   Albion at Alma  ;)

Whether the actual tip is before the buzzer is inconsequential, the act of the tip (and the foul) began before the red lights.  However, you should be watching when the officials hand goes up in relation to the red lights.  Then you should be livid if you don't root for Alma.

As just about any basketball fan would tell you and many said after the game, that call was absolutely ridiculous .  I was under the impression NOBODY
