Dutchfan, what was the context of 'thank you Preston'? Did he miss the last shot of the game? I didn't watch it as I was in Cutler watching OC.

He did not. Preston has a "big personality" to put it nicely. Because of that, he has drawn the attention of the Calvin student section. There may be other history that I am unaware of. I will say that as a Calvin fan I was disappointed when they started chanting that. However, and not to condone the action, it is nothing Hope students haven't done in the past (eg. "we love Daly"). Also, disappointed to hear about the sign. I am sure that if the AD had seen it he would have immediately told them to take it down.
As a Hope fan I remember the things I've seen/heard from the Calvin fans much better, especially the specifics. They just seem to stay with me. However, there have been numerous times where I wanted to March over to the Dew Crew, grab them by the ear and tell them to cut it out.

What has me truly upset is that we should be better than this. We should be brothers and sisters in spirit and in the Lord, and that shouldn't end when we walk in the fieldhouse.

What I don't understand is why Hope never really tried to open up from outside. Hope finished the night shooting just three shots from beyond the arc. That seems like a huge flaw in Coach Mitchell's game plan for a team shooting 40% from beyond the arc.

Just as in the other two games, it seemed like Calvin was always much better positioned for rebounds than Hope was, especially down the stretch.

Olivet 89 Alma 74

Great game by the Comets in Cutler tonight. Tracy Edmond and Trevor Manuel played excellent games scoring 57 between them. Trevor had a double double with 13 boards and 27 points. He also added 6 assists. He struggled a bit from the line, going 7-11, though that's probably near his season average. Tracy drove the ball really well tonight and the stat line showed. He also had a perfect night at the line. He also added 5 steals in the game. Of note for the two of them, they scored 42 of Olivet's 52 in the second half. A true 1st team All-MIAA performance from both of them.

Dee Roberts looked to be injured at the end of the first half. He came up limping and wasn't see on the court in the second half.

Also, congratulations to Tracy Edmond becoming the 14th member of the men's basketball team to score 1,000 career points. Well done considering he only played in Olivet for two years!

Does Jason Beckman have a year of eligibility left?

Credit Calvin's defense for that - Hope just never got open looks, and I think that was the difference in the game.

Nope - 2 years at Alma and 2 years at Hope.

Calvin 68  Hope 66  F

Another really good one between these two tonight.  Three in one season actually seems rare these days.  Hope had its chances and like most of its season just couldn't quite make that one or two big plays to change a game at either end.

I think this is probably the closest I've seen a Hope team get to being really good and just not quite get over the hump.  The narrative of Hope's season (and Calvin's) is very different if the result of these games is different.

I believe Tracy was a 1000 point scorer in 2 years a Lansing Community College.  He's a great player, one of the best PG's this league has seen.

This will be the first MIAA semi-final without Hope since its inception in 1992.  It was a great run and was bound to happen someday.

sure

When I saw it from the livestream I thought it was a foul. After seeing a few different angles I lean towards letting it go, but obviously I am biased. If you have instagram you can look at the Calvin knights page and watch their "story" to see a different angle. Maybe just some good Karma after what happened against Alma.

A bit of poor sportsmanship on the part of the Calvin students tonight, holding up a sign saying "Hope, keeping ugly girls out  of Calvin since 1876".

Can't say it isn't true though.... ;) ;D ::)

That's because the girls at Hope care about their grades more than their looks.   :)

I had an interesting idea a while back. Remember back in the 90's when D1 players could get an extra year of eligibility playing in D3? What I would like to see is D3 players getting an extra year of eligibility playing at the D1 level. Maybe give D1 teams an extra one-year scholarship specifically for this purpose?
