Matt Nadelhoffer might be a good get.  Of course, I'm hoping Eddie D makes a come back.

He's tan, he's rested, he's ready.
Who is tan, rested, and ready?  Matt or Eddie?
Eddie.  I don't even know Matt.

Another D3 head coach Calvin might consider is Owen Handy at Anderson, who apprenticed at Wheaton under both Mike Schauer and Bill Harris. He's a western Michigan native and Holland High grad, so he knows all about the MIAA; in fact, former Albion star Travis DePree is his cousin.

In his audition at Van Noord Arena in November, Owen received two technical fouls and had to watch the final fourteen minutes on livestream from the showers.

With respect to coaching candidates for Calvin I think it will be hard for Calvin to pull a coach like Vanderwal from Marietta or other coaches that they may try to get from outside the Michigan area.
There are some reasons for this one of which would be can Calvin pay a guy like Vanderwal enough to leave Marietta and what he has done there, a second reason that there could be would be what criteria is Calvin going to put on what credentials the candidates need to have,(masters degree, etc) and a third that comes to mind would be are they going to want the candidates to be affiliated with the CRC or RCA? These are just some questions that have come into my mind. We will find out soon enough the answers as to what Calvin will be looking for. I am not placing emphasis on any one of the three things I listed but to me they will probably factor in somehow. And there is definitely one I feel will be a big factor but I am not going to voice that opinion right now.

Calvin's hiring policies have changed in recent years.  In the past these things were true as coach's were part of the faculty.  This is no longer the case as new coach's that are hired are staff members and not faculty.  Faculty have different requirements (masters degree, church affiliation etc) than staff members do.  This has been in place for a few years now.

So he is already familiar with the arena and the floor, as well as the locker room and the showers.  :)

You guys even have wi-fi in the Van Noord locker-room showers? Swanky! ;)

Even so, getting back to Owen Handy, he's a member of a church in Indianapolis that is part of a conservative Reformed denomination (Presbyterian Church in America), which probably doesn't hurt his cause with Calvin if he does choose to apply for the job. (I have no idea whether or not he has any interest in the job at all.)

Sounds like my kind of coach. Maybe we can short list him for Olivet! 😂

Just in case anyone is interested, this has the postings for Olivet Men's and Women's head coaching job postings.

And here is the posting for Calvin's Women's Head Coach job, which I would assume is fairly close to what is expected in the Men's job, which I did not see as posted yet.

I, for one, strongly applaud Calvin's commitment to diversity, particularly if it hires basketball coaches who want to diversify on the basis of "physical limitations."

Careful, HC.  They might recruit an Earl Boykins! ;D

HOPEful

I've spent a lot of time this week thinking about next season's rosters. In my opinion, Albion and Calvin seem to be off to the best start, returning the most talent.

Albion loses Fordham and Parker, but I think Armstrong and Winston will fill those minutes just fine. Returning Ebeling, Barnes, and Davis Jr. has to put them as very early preseason favorites. Davis and Ebeling are going to be a scary combo next year.

Calvin is similarly positioned, losing Gutierrez and Bykerk. But after an off-season, I would think inserting Shymanski and Meulenberg in their place could actually make this team better. Returning DeWitte, DeVries, and Bos, the new coach will be positioned nicely in his first season in Grand Rapids. Calvin's best games last season were when players other than DeVries made their opponents pay for keying on Derrick. I expect more of that in 2019-20.

After these two, it gets much harder to predict...

I believe the only starter from Olivet that can return is Manuel, this season's rightful MVP. (no disrespect to Pete Smith) With a new coach, as well, who knows what will happen here.

Hope loses Beckman, Towns, and Ray but returns Lewis and Granger, which are a solid two players to build around. Towards the end of the season, they were clearly giving more minutes to Hackert, Vree, and Gamm, perhaps a precursor to next season. If they can muster up an offense, this team should be much bigger and could contend for the league. If the only regular scoring threats are Lewis, Granger, and Hackert, it could be a rebuilding year like Hope hasn't seen in a very long time.

Trine loses everyone other than Winters and Johnson. Will be interesting how far they fall just one season after winning the league outright.

KZoo, Alma, and Adrian all return just about everyone. Albiet, from a teams that went 7-18, 5-21, and 6-19 respectively. But there were definite signs of improvement as the season progressed. Does anyone know if Gamble intends to return on a medical redshirt?

Regarding Gamble redshirting (based on my knowledge of such things), that is not an option given the number of games he played this year (16)

Kevin Gamble was a Fr. for Alma in 2014-15, he missed all of 2017.  2018-19 was his 5th year of eligibility.

That's kind of what made the Doug Bradfield injury so devastating to them as well, this was also his 5th year.
