"If the Ryan Stevens rumors are accurate, clearly Kool's credentials should have been at least considered.  Nothing against what Stevens has done at Calvin Christian, but on paper, I'd prefer the former Mr. Basketball, MAC Player of the year, WMU assistant, Jenison and Holland Christian head coach over at 20+ seasoned Calvin Christian coach.

One finds almost nothing in Mr. Kools bio which would indicate he has ever shown much interest, let alone loyalty, to Calvin.
Last year's Calvin roster had no HCHS grads listed.  Misses the "feeder" school litmus test  :)

Mr Stevens (member of a national championship team) over those 20 years, you so blithely dismiss, has had quite a few grads who did quite nicely at Calvin.

If Mr. Kool was interested in the Calvin job my guess would be that he wanted it only to use as a stepping stone to further his own career.

I have sat in a great many interviews over the years with multiple different companies and organizations. Never once have I thought it appropriate to ask or be asked what my professional loyalty was to that company. The answer is zero, they/I don't work there, yet. If the school is ruling out candidates because they're not "calvin guys", they are in my opinion doing themselves a HUGE disfavor.

He attended a private, reformed tradition high school in South Christian, graduated from Western Michigan University, and is the current head coach at a CRC high school in Holland Christian. Seems to me he's shown a great deal of loyalty to both the CRC and West Michigan.

You are correct, Mr. Stevens was a great high school coach, and a great one for calvin recruiting. I do blithely dismiss him being a PLAYER on a calvin national championship team as a qualification to coach the team in 2019 and beyond. I also dismiss that 20 years as a high school head coach firmly establishes that you will be a great college head coach.

I have no way of knowing if either Stevens or Kool would/will be great coaches for calvin. I do know their resumes are close enough that both should have been interviewed.

I would guess that the percentage of HCHS graduates that go on to attend Calvin is one of, if not, the highest for any high school in the country. If that is no longer true for the basketball players, perhaps it says more about calvin and/or its basketball program than HCHS.

Certainly ignoring the current head coach's application won't help in future recruiting efforts.

It appears to be a dark and lonely job, but somebody has to do it.

For the record, Kool has left voicemails for Timmer politely asking why he didn't get an interview. Still hasn't gotten a call back

Shawn Pardee  5-11  G  Millington HS will attend Olivet

Shawn is a 2016 Millington graduate and was 2nd team Class C his Sr. year.  I believe he attended Mott JC for a couple years though there are no archives to confirm that.  Last Winter would have been his 3rd year and probably not eligible to play JC ball so not sure where he was this year.

If it's time to start a mob, historically, I believe ax handles and chains are the CRC's preferred weapons of choice.

Should we meet at Pillar Church and party like it's 1882?
