The Veenstra at Kalamazoo Christian is the son of former Calvin great Mark Veenstra, but from what I have heard he has a ways to go before he is even a D3 player.

I attended the two Calvin games here in Denver over the holidays and soon found this forum.  Although this is my first post, I've been reading the MIAA board since January and have enjoyed it very much.  Being so far away, with only the radio feed on the internet, it's hard to get a real feel for what's going on.  This board has helped a lot.  Thanks to everyone who has posted (especially the after game posts that provide so much detail about what transpired during the games).

Maybe you'd have to have attended Hope to understand why we get so defensive about certain things.   I don't know but I'm guilty of it myself, Hope is a special place filled with special people who do wonderful and amazing things for other people.  I'm reminded of that every basketball season.   The place changed my life and continues to change it every day.  Hope is the same place its always been, great people, great fans.  Like I said maybe you'd have to have attended to school to understand.  All I can say is Hope will be the same place with or without a Championship.  To paraphrase a famous movie "Banners, we don't need no stinkin' banners." ;D

I honestly don't know what the next few months will bring for me, major changes I'm sure.  I don't know if I'll be in a position to give my opinions on next years Hope team but I certainly Hope I'll be close enough that I can.  I know I'll make it to as many as I can, you won't be able to keep me away.

So my final thank you for 2006........thank you To Ray and Sue Smith for the tickets , much appreciated.  Thank you Coach VanWieren for the kind words and to Jackie for the free hugs.  To Clare VanWieren the stories I'd never heard, To Bill Vandenberg, thanks for just being Bill.  To GoHope, also thanks for the hugs and her friend Max the insiteful stats.  To CivicMinded and FDF for all the pregame discussions and the humor, but mostly the Calvin Tickets that was awesome, even if it was a loss. ;D  To Goodknight and Oldknight thanks for the opposing opinions and the kind words.  To Coach Turner and the Albion crew, thanks for putting up with me.  Finally to the other posters on this site, I just say thanks, its always fun.

Thanks, Sac.

I wrote to the NCAA and DePauw on Sunday night, and just received this reply.  It sounds to me like they are genuinely concerned and I expect we'll be hearing more.

I apologize for the delay but thanks so much for the note. I chair the DIII Commissioners Associations Sportsmanship and Ethical Conduct Committee and serve on the NCAAs national committee. I can also say the commissioners of these respective institutions are top notch people and will also address the matter. I'll be sure to get this to the right people to address. Thanks for bringing this forward to be addressed and for your genuine concern of the integrity of our contests.

Kindest Regards,

Chuck Mitrano

Welcome aboard DenverKnight. If you have any questions about what is going on in the MIAA don't be afraid to ask. There is no shortage of opinion givers on this board that's for sure--not that I'm naming names.   ;) ;D :-X

Tony Westhouse had a flying one-hander off the left wing at Knollcrest that is the best I've ever seen.  Sherm Karstenen had a beauty for UWSP in the 2000 finals too.

Bob, I'm glad someone else remembers that one.  It was just incredible.  The attendance was fairly low for that game, and if I remeber correctly, the game was already in hand, so people were sort of idly watching.  But then Westouse dunked it and it seemed like the whole Fieldhouse was sort of in disbelief.  It was just awesome.  By FAR the best d3 dunk I have seen in person.

That was my freshman year, and I was on JV. I didn't stay around for the game, but the next day for our practice, our coach had us watch that dunk about 4 or 5 times. I was just stunned. It really did come out of nowhere. The gym was all quiet, then the dunk came, and everyone was on their feet screaming and walking around on the bleachers. A dunk can be worth more than 2 points....

FDF:  Thanks for the update.  I haven't heard anything so far, but they may not respond as I only am reporting what I heard.  Please keep us posted.
Calvin Grad:  I heard the same thing about the younger Veenstra.  We all know those are some big shoes to fill.
DenverKnight:  Welcome.

well, congrats to Brandon Crawford, 1st team all-region.
Also, Andy Phillips and Caleb Veldhouse, 3rd team all-region.
I'm not suprised by Phillips and Crawford, but even as a Knight fan, Veldhouse? wow. He's good, but i sure didnt expect it. What does everyone else think? Once again, congrats to those 3.
