In D1 the DOBO (an acronym that is pronounced "dough-boe") breaks down the film and sets it up for the coaching staff to review, does a lot of the paperwork, arranges the academic tutorial schedules -- stuff like that. It's a little bit of everything, except that the DOBO doesn't sit on the bench or get involved with any of the actual hands-on coaching. A DOBO is often a young guy trying to break into the coaching ranks who has yet to land an actual coaching gig; DOBO work is sort of a foot-in-the-door way of getting into coaching.

You're forgetting travel - it may not be universal, but every DOBO I've spoken with was also in charge of managing team travel - hotels, busses, etc.  I suspect really big schools have a travel dept, but I doubt they all do.

What classes does Ryan Souders, head soccer coach at Calvin, teach?  I believe that Calvin has changed their policy and some, but not all coaches, do not teach.

I agree completely on Van Koevering.  He should be a starter from day one.

Not really forgetting it, just that all of the DOBOs I've ever known have counted off so many duties on their fingers that I really didn't want to attempt to enumerate them. I just named three so that Jameswys would get the gist of what a D1 DOBO does.

I did a little checking. This academic year Souders team-taught IDIS W32 The Leadership Code, he's also in charge of athletic recruiting and acts as a liaison between admissions and athletics.

True to form, oldknight's modesty prevents him from publicly announcing the "Mr & Mrs. oldknight Endowed (Bench) Chair for Men's Basketball."   I am seeing an oldknight move from the baseline to a prominent spot right behind the bench in the near future.  (Much safer there, with less chance to get hurt by fumbling an errant pass that might enter the stand)

I just hope it doesn't cut too badly into Mrs. Oldknight's shopping budget.

Let me break into my husband's account for this report: Ain't happenin' no way. Since it appears we have that kind of money to throw around, my budget may well go up. Seriously.
