Does anybody know what happened to the Beckman's? Neither Danny or Jenny are on the respective Hope rosters.

Jenny decided not to play at Hope this year - not even sure she is attending Hope.

Danny had surgery on his foot/lower leg late summer, and has chosen to sit out this season to be fully healed and then come back for his 2 remaining years of eligibility. He was on the bench tonight in a suit.

Actually, the attendance for that Hope @ Indiana basketball game was listed as 17,222. :)

Paid attendance yes, it was part of IU season ticket packages, but there were only about 8 to 9,000 in there.  The entire upper deck was closed on both sides.

GVSU 99 Hope 62

Encouraging game with GVSU despite the final score.   I'd say Vree, Gamm and Granger all worked very hard on agility and conditioning.  Vree and Gamm will move Granger to the 4 and that should help Hope in a number of games.   Jeff Bikus also looks like someone who'll be able to give a few minutes.

Guard positions are going to take awhile to sort out or Hope is going to use about 8 guys on any given night.  The two Freshmen Dykhouse and Thomas certainly look like they'll fit into a regular rotation at some point.  Dykhouse is really the only pure PG on the roster hence think he might fit into a starting role later on.

I will remain in the mindset defense will get you more minutes than offense and Hope's season will hinge completely on whether they can defend better than last year and they'll have nights where the offense goes south.

Felt like GVSU played really well tonight, they caught fire mid 2nd half after Hope had it around 15 and had cut it to 11.  Hit a number of 3's and some transition hoops after that.  Hope struggled with their legs a bit and the shots went flat late.

No, Olivet hasn’t posted the roster yet. I’d look for it late Tuesday or Wednesday. The Comet Madness event is Tuesday night at 9pm and that is where the varsity roster gets announced. I’d expect it soon thereafter.

Good call on the timing - here is the roster for Olivet:

No sign of the often discussed 6-10 Sage Walker

Mike McClary is listed on the coaching staff. One of the Comet greats.

The team was officially introduced last night, with a 3 point contest, a dunk contest and a red vs. white scrimmage. Olivet has new red uniforms that say "COMETS" on the nameplate. They look really nice.

Thanks for the more specific info sac.  I listed what is officially posted in the records and totally understand your observation.  Yet, also, I was just mentioning it because I was told by another person who also attended the game that it was more than 10,000 in attendance.  Doesn't matter though, as that was still a great venue and experience for Hope.

I was traveling back home last evening after a business appointment up north and listened to the Albion/Michigan State exhibition game and they (Albion) got their tails kicked, although obviously that was expected.  However, I had hoped they would have a better showing against them.  As to the Hope vs. GVSU, I tend to think that were Hope of the really top calibur teams they had "back in the day," they would have a better showing against them as well.  Just my thoughts from this "non-basketball" guy!  Anyway, I'll will be looking forward to reading all your and your MIAA bb colleague followers comments again here this year for the season, but as you know, I rarely post on this bb board! ::) :)

I'd say pretty spot on. One thing evident in both Chicago and this one, if defense gets you on the floor, Gamm has an edge on Vree. Vree tends to rely on size and ability to block shots and doesn't move or bang as well as Gamm. Granger comes and goes with his D but he's a threat to score all the time so Mitchell will live with some of his lapses. This trio, plus Bikus is a big upgrade over the rotations at 4/5 the last few years given health issues and relative inexperience.

Dykhouse excites me the most. Poor man's, shorter Cassius Winston. Great vision and handles and a killer floater. Lewis is going to have to fine his shot and keep it or droughts could be painful on O at times - especially in the MIAA when Granger sees routine double teams.

Thanks again Pat.  With all due respect, what does "Karma responsibly" mean?  While my Karma levels don't really bother me one way or another, I do love the feeling of giving positive karma to posters from my school and to posts that are spot on, but I also love smiting those that oppose my views.  When it's all said and done, does it really matter how much + or - Karma one has?
