I agree. It seems to me that Calvin does a poor job of protecting the basket.  There doesn't seem to be help when somebody gets beat.  Calvin allows easy entry passes into the post by always playing behind.  Olivet is going to be difficult for them to handle.

Trine and Alma have already moved both men's and women's games to Sunday afternoon at 3pm.

I don't understand why games are postponed 48 hours before a predicted snow storm.  What is the downside of waiting until Saturday too see what the actual weather is?

I was actually wondering the same thing - like why would you put that much faith in the forecast that far out?  Their track record of properly predicting the weather isn't that great  ???

Because it helps make sure no one gets on the road to head to a game ahead of time and puts those people in danger.

It also makes sure the teams can readjust their schedules accordingly without much hassle.

And who cares if it is wrong, there is a plan in place to play the game and now everyone has adjusted ... instead of last minute changes that can throw a lot of things off not only for teams but admins and site people as well. There are more people involved in these games than the teams.

Hearing that Calvin's women play at 12:30, and men after them at 2:30 on Saturday

Trine/Alma is sort of unique because both the men and women are playing the same opponent in opposite locations.  Alma is expecting an extended heavier ice event, beginning earlier, ending later with snow at the end.

Also, easier because both Trine and Alma can agree to play on Sunday.

All Saturday game times have been changed:

Kzoo at Adrian, noon
Albion at Hope, 1pm
Olivet at Calvin 2:30

Sunday
Alma at Trine 3pm

It is nice seeing Hope students in the student section again.

Not that it would have mattered much in today's game, but Hope HAS to find a way to get that ball in the hoop from beyond the three point line. George started the game with a three and that was the only one that went in for the Dutchman (disregarding two garbage time threes they were 1-14 today. Against Olivet they were 2-11). The worst part is that they really aren't even getting open looks from three. Its very odd, because Hope has always found success from downtown. (No Riley definitely hurts)

At this point, Granger is really the only player that contributed meaningful minutes last year. Hope is young and looks the part. They show moments of promise but it is very much one step forward, two steps back. Even against Olivet they had some head scratching moments. I really hope Mitchell continues to play the young guys more (Swinehart and Hartmann especially). It will only pay off in the long run.

Albion 84  Hope 70  F

Albion controls Hope for 40 minutes, maintaining and building a lead that became insurmountable.  Difference in the game was behind the arc where Albion made 11 to Hope's 1 before a couple garbage time 3's late by Swinehart and Hartmann.  Otherwise encouraging in a way because Hope carved up Albion for much of the afternoon, they just had no 3-point game at all.  Sam Vree probably played his best game in a Hope uniform.  Davis was pretty close to sensational and put the game out of reach later.

Granger 17, Thomas 13, Vree 12
Davis 23, Ebeling 21, Armstrong 11

With Calvin Hackert sitting this one out with the flu Hope is barely the team they started the year with.  Gamm still out with injury, Jake Honor done for the year from injury and Riley Lewis chilling at home, plus two other bench defections.   Being down 4 guys you were counting on to contribute is tough.

Ditto to Dr. Dutchman and Sac. A lot of the 3-point shots that didn't fall today--especially those by Evan Thomas--were ones that have fallen in earlier games, and surely will again . . . as hopefully will be the case with the abundance of missed free throws and layups. The return of Ryan Gamm (soon?) would also add more strength in the paint. Still, it's a rebuilding year.

One observation about the game's end: After seeming upset at the officials for much of the game, Greg Mitchell--as he always does--took time to congratulate Jody May and each of the players who starred today, with extended words and hearty pats on the back for each. A classy way to end a frustrating afternoon.

Calvin was very good today.  Olivet couldn't stop DeVries who had 14 points in a 4 minute stretch in the first half.  He had a great game finishing with 34.  Thad Shymanski had a great shooting day with 23.  Tony De Witte had a great game also today.  His defense on Pardee was tremendous.  Olivet can't win when he shoots 3-13. DeWitte shot well too today and finished with 16 points.
