Wow, I didn't remember how bad a drubbing we put on Wilkes in that game, we let them score the last 12 in order to make it only a 20 point difference. Says how good that Platteville team was given that we just cakewalked the semis and I still found myself on Saturday seeing that Hope was simply the second best team out there. It's interesting how often the D3 Final Four creates complete blowouts because of the uneven regional brackets. In '96, I remember the first game being equally lopsided as we torched F+M (who I think came in with what looked like a stellar W-L record) and I believe IWU put a pretty big hurting on them in the consolation game too.

It would be odd for the D1 tourney to see regularly occuring mismatches like that from teams that have survived a 4 game gauntlet, but I guess that's what happens with the regional setup. I would imagine that the Great Lakes and Midwest survivors have proved themselves, so are either Amherst or Va Wesleyan going to be soundly exposed on Friday?

Just spoke with a person who has a family member that goes to De Pauw.  They attended the game a week ago De Pauw/Marysville, and he commented the behavior on the part of De P students was worse than anything he has seen MIAA, Big 10, GLAIC etc. etc.  Language was terrible, and students started chanting for Marysville to leave at the half.  DP was up 17 at the time.
This person sat right behind the De Pauw President.  He indicated the President left at halftime, and walked right by the student section, and didn't say a thing.  To me this indicates that administration condones classless, and unsportmans like behavior.
He (my acquaintance) is sorry now he didn't say something to the President, but thought he would do it when the guy came back after the half, but the Pres. left the building.

There was a funny moment where they asked an IWU player about guys leaving early for the NBA, and he said the only thing you have to worry about in D3 is guys leaving early for grad school.

Great line!  ;)

NESCAC schools like Amherst seem to handle themselves pretty well in the Final Four.

ODAC schools have done well as well but I don't know what to make of Va Wesleyan.

I can't imagine we'll see a single "blowout", greater than 20 points at least.  Wittenberg just doesn't play that kind of game and IWU isn't going to be blown out or blow out VW

Lets not forget in 1998 Hope rolled through EVERYONE up to Platteville, where they ran into a little stronger team.

Alleghany, Christopher Newport, John Carroll and Wilkes never had a prayer........all of those were over at halftime.

PS .....the Muhlenberg FT's were in the Semi-Final game.........I remember it because the FT occured in front of the Hope bench which was accross from the Hope fan section.  The next night the bench was at the other end and Platteville was in front of their fans. ;D

Is 20 points the cutoff for a blowout?  That seems high to me.

Though, I suppose if you've watched Hope blow out most of their copmetetion this year, anything less than a 20 point win won't be considered a blowout. :D  I watched Calvin struggle through too many teams they should have blown out, and only win by a handful.  A few 10- 15-point wins would have felt like blowouts at the Knollcrest Fieldhouse this year.

Mr. Ypsi

sac,

A VW blow-out of IWU is (to me) unimaginable.  And IWU, while often winning solidly, rarely 'blows' anyone out, so you are probably right.  But I would certainly not say that an IWU 'blow-out' of VW is all that unlikely - Adair appears to be right up there with IWU's All-Americans, but, by all accounts, IWU is a MUCH deeper team.  I'll only predict a 12-15 point win, but 20-30 would definitely not shock me.

With your track records of predictions of this year........can I expect VW to be in the final after a 15 point win over IWU.

......by the way what's the probability of IWU going unbeaten this weekend. :D ;) ;D

northb------sometimes I feel like the term blowout gets used too much.  I don't really consider a 15 point win a blowout,  Thats only 5 posessions in today's game.  Its a comfortable win for sure but not a blowout in my mind........unless they led by 20+ at some point in the game. ;D

sac, I sure wish that folks would stop focusing on my bad predictions (some of which I never made - e.g., I NEVER predictied that IWU would go undefeated on the season).  The predictions I have ever actually made have not been all that bad.  And, yes, I have the guts to stick my neck out on the final four:

IWU-Witt final : >50%
If that happens: IWU > 55%
Chances of the trophy for each of the FF teams:
  IWU: 50%
  Witt: 30%
  Amherst: 12%
  Va Wes: 8%

Just my opinion.

Way to go Hope.  A team from the Great Lakes in each final.

Congrats to the Wittenberg Tigers on a great gut-check come-from-behind semi-final win at Salem.   :)

Good luck tomorrow.   :)

Yep-that's about it.   Check in about once per week or so, and you might find a little talk about recruiting decisions.  Go golfing, rest up.  Go Knights!

Or you can hang around the women's board for another few hours and see what the Hope Women bring home.

We still have to do the obligatory predictions for next year. What players are teams losing? What will teams look like next year, not counting new players of course, and how strong will they be? Who will win the MIAA next year?
