Jarred Houghton, G, Grand Ledge will attend Olivet
https://twitter.com/jared_houghton1/status/1262446463591886850

(Yes, his name on Twitter says Jarred but his twitter handle says Jared)

I think it's one 'R'. But I've never known two Jared/Jered/Jarrods to be spelled the same way.

Jared  is a feisty little guard, deceptive quickness and has never seen a 3-point shot he didn't like  ;)

Grand Ledge is coached by former Olivet player and alum Travis Schellhammer.

As he is from Illinois, then initially sent to a Wisconsin college, what on earth was the attraction for him on going to Alma? Friends, family alumni??? You know why I am fond of Alma, however, this transfer seems strange to me.🙂

In Whiteside's HS senior season at Glenbard South in west suburban Glen Ellyn, IL, he was an All Area DuPage County and Special Mention All State player who averaged 18.5 PPG. Coming out, he envisioned himself as a D1 level player, but was well recruited at the D3 level instead. When he, somewhat surprisingly, chose Oshkosh the consensus was that a good part of his thinking was that the star UWO guards would graduate after his first year, thus opening two possible starting spots this past season. But he played just 2 minutes in 2018-2019, and only 22 minutes this entire season when he was beaten out for PT by two freshmen. Accordingly, his transferring is in no way surprising. I know nothing as to how he chose Alma as his new domicile. His basketball blood lines are strong, his mom having played at Notre Dame.

Thanks for the background info, AndOne. I tried to find out if there was some Alma connection somewhere, but was unable to find any. Regardless, I wish him the best at Alma and hope he enjoys both the school and playing basketball there and has a successful remainder of his collegiate BB career.

This seems like a decent time to discuss, anything else.

There seems to be some smoke on the horizon of the possibility of a major transfer from one MIAA school to another.

Enjoy

I don't have dates for Hope's schedule but I believe this is how it shakes out

Hope @ IWU Tournament    Hope, Illinois Wesleyan, Ripon, UW-Oshkosh
Hope hosts GR Hall of Fame Classic    Hope, Calvin, Cornerstone, Aquinas
Hope hosts Russ DeVette Holiday Tournament    Hope, Monmouth, Greenville   (assume Olivet is team #4)
Hope @ WashU Tournament    Hope, Washington-St. Louis, unknown, unknown

Home single games:    UW-Stevens Point, UW-Platteville
Away single game:  Anderson

For sure Hope is opening at IWU's tournament, you can probably pencil in UW-Oshkosh as the opener.
Anderson is likely in between the IWU and Hall of Fame Tournaments but could be a late Dec game as well.

UWSP and UWP probably the weekend before exam week
WashU Lopata Tournament has been moved a round a bit, but most frequently first weekend of Dec
GR Hall of Fame is played Thanksgiving weekend.
Hope's own Tournament is over Christmas break is either before Christmas if WashU is after, or after if WashU is earlier in the schedule.

Challenging and probably well above Hope's current talent level, but great opponents in there.  I'd expect this to rate very highly in SOS.  Two great D3 bucket list gyms in IWU and WashU.

No hints at all?  Maybe the color of the smoke?

I'm guessing at least one of Hope, Olivet or Albion are involved on one end or the other given sac's intel history. An Alma to Olivet transfer makes sense given the Sam Hargraves connection. Hard to speculte too much based on uncertainty as what qualifies as major.

Per Greenville's Team Page http://athletics.greenville.edu/sports/mbkb/2020-21/schedule it appears that the Russ Devette will be Dec 29/30.

Hint #1 Does not involve a player leaving Hope (that I'm aware of anyway)
